1968 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser

This 1968 FJ40 is an original California “Blue Plate” collector’s car.

I purchased this car on February 17, 2012. I actually paid a deposit, and flew to Los Angeles to personally inspect it. After purchasing it, I drove it from Los Angeles, CA to Jackson, MS without even the smallest hiccup. Since then, the truck has been trouble-free and a blast to drive. This truck has been used as a daily driver driving to and from work, and here and there. I would guess that in total, the truck has had about 5000 miles put on it since I purchased it, a little over 2 years ago.

I have been meticulous in keeping it in good condition, and performing scheduled maintenance on the engine (keeping all receipts). I have always installed a Fram Oil Filters and Mobil 1 Full Synthetic during oil changes. The car has always been kept in a garage out of the elements, and it is rarely driven in the rain.

The previous owner rebuilt this truck from the frame up. He built it as his dream truck and spared no expense, spending many man-hours in the restoration. The previous owner and his father (both engineers in California) did all of it themselves, and they kept receipts for almost everything.

Here is a list of many of the modifications:

· Frame was sand blasted, treated with POR-15 and painted with flat black epoxy paint.

· There is not one single nut or bolt that has not been replaced with new (often grade 8) metric fasteners.

· External trim bolts have all been replaced with stainless steel (very expensive).

· It has a 2008 5.3 liter Chevy Vortec and 4L60e transmission with 8000 miles on it when the previous owner purchased the engine and transmission (from the same vehicle, have receipt). So in total, the truck has approximately 13,000 miles on the engine, and 8,000 miles since the restoration.

· Transmission is mated to the original stock transfer case with Advance Adapters twin stick shifters.

· Trans shifter is an Art Carr gate shifter.

· Engine/transmission wiring harness and computer flash built by Current Performance (have receipts).

· Entire truck rewired with a painless wire harness.

· Stock speedo with custom auto meter gauges built into factory gauge cluster (speedometer is non-functional).

· Dual stage electric fan. All gauges use electrical sending units. Fuel pump is recessed into stock gas tank, and the gas tank is sealed with Eastwood gas tank sealer.

· Custom made transfer case saver and carriage reinforced equally on both sides (very stout!)

· All adapters were purchased from Advance Adapters (have receipts).

· Front drive shaft is from Advance Adapters designed specifically for this conversion.

· High Steer from All Pro Off Road.

· Saginaw power steering.

· Rear drive shaft is a DC out of the front of an 85’ Toyota pickup.

· Front suspension is stock leaf springs with shackle reversal and spring over axle (axle cut and turned by Profits Cruisers).

· Rear axle suspension is a custom four link using Currie Enterprises Johnny Joints.

· Trailing arms were designed to be very long giving an excellent on road drive as well as amazing travel and articulation off road (have all suspension calculations).

· Wheel base stretched to 109 inches.

· 4-wheel disc brakes.

· Full 3” custom exhaust tucked up between the frame rails wrapped with heat tape with a Magnaflo muffler.

· C6 Corvette center dump headers.

· WARN locking hubs.

· Complete chromoly custom 6 point (family) roll cage tied into the frame.

· Entire body tub removed, body work performed and painted. Each individual body piece painted individually.

· Brand new rain rail on hard top.

· Entire interior of the body tub has three coats (or more in places) of DuPont bed liner with Kevlar.

· Front driver and passenger door hinges have bronze pin bushings.

· Rear Ambulance Doors with all new rubber and seals.

· All glass has brand new seals, mostly factory Toyota when it was able to be purchased but otherwise good quality automotive replacement.

· Front Drive/pass doors have all brand new rubber, wipers, felt and seals. The wing rubber on the hard top is also brand new.

· Stock windshield wipers (brand new) and switch work perfectly!

· Fully adjustable Honda Prelude seats.

· Tilt steering.

· Brand new heater core.

· Every light excluding the headlights have been replaced with appropriate LEDs.

· Custom swing out tire carrier with full size spare. 35” Procomp AT Extremes (including spare) on 17” FJ Cruiser Steelies. Tires have approximately 20% tread. Spare is like new.

· Custom front bumper with receiver hitch and custom tow bar.

· MC Designs Quick Hinges on the doors allow you to easily remove the doors whenever you want.

· Brand new OEM rear Toyota emblem.

· Brand new OEM rear Toyota 4x4 emblem.

· 9 LED 27W reverse light.

· Brand new OEM fuel sending unit and gasket.

· Brand new Autometer programmable fuel gauge (needs to be properly calibrated).

· Brand new 3 core aluminum radiator. This truck will not overheat during a Mississippi summer.

· Brand new telescoping hinge mirror set from Cool Cruisers. (allow use when windshield is folded)

· Hella Twin Trumpet Horns.

· New SONY radio/CD player with mini-jack for iPod or phone.

· Vinyl covered MDF speaker box with all-weather speakers.

· Rancho Battery Cut-off Switch with two sets of keys.

· Zinc plated filler neck from Cool Cruisers.

· Lockable gas cap from Cool Cruisers.

· New suspension bushings.

· Knuckles were completely rebuilt with new seals and wipes by the previous owner.

It is an absolute head turner and you WILL get compliments anywhere you go. Most people don’t even realize it has a four link rear end until the stick their head under the truck. The is THE cleanest 5.3 Vortec swap you will ever see. Trust me.

This car is a great daily driver, ESPECIALLY in the summertime with the top and doors off. If I am feeling adventurous, I will even fold the windshield down. The tuned 5.3 mated to a relatively light truck body makes the truck surprisingly fast and nimble in an urban environment. It goes without saying, but this truck is also VERY capable off road. The powerful drivetrain, 4-link suspension, and 35” tires make it an excellent candidate for rock crawling, though I would advise against it, because you’d hate to bang this beautiful truck up!

The only issues are as follows:

-The paint has a few scratches and chips from everyday driving.

-There is a small crack in the rear fender well on the driver’s side.

-Fuel spilled on the clear coat around the fuel cap and caused the clear coat to bubble just underneath the filler nozzle.

-There is also an area around the windshield tie-down where the paint/filler has cracked, but was repainted.

-The heater on/off knob needs to be replaced, though you can still turn the valve by hand.

-The stock speedometer/odometer is inoperable. A replacement can be purchased from many online vendors. Autometer also makes a good speedo, depending if you want to keep the original look of the factory cluster or not.

-The windshield fluid reservoir has a hole melted in it where it fell on the header.

The truck comes with everything you see here, and it also comes with a set of rear half-doors, for when you decide to take the top off (painted to match). I also have a vintage WARN 8274 winch I can sell if you are interested, and a brand new OEM Toyota FJ40 Windshield (still in the factory packaging).

I have a very comprehensive 3” binder with all receipts, calculations, paperwork, manuals, and vintage California blue plates.

I will be happy to send any pictures that are requested and answer any questions.

My wife and I are planning on making babies soon, and as this car is my daily driver, it will not the the most child-friendly. The plan is to sell this rig and purchase a 200 series. There is nothing wrong with this car. I really do drive it every single day. I will be sad to see it go.

There are probably a few things I have missed but I believe that is an accurate representation of the truck and the work performed.

I am asking $35,000 SOLD PENDING FUNDS

I am located in Jackson, Mississippi.

I am not interested in trades.

That's a really nice 40. Any axle upgrades? GLWS!

Thanks. No axle upgrades--all stock.

I had always planned on upgrading with ARB lockers and longfields, but never did.
