Last March I flew down to Phoenix from Vancouver, Canada with the family for my son's baseball tournament. We rented a stock jeep while there and took it for a trail run in Sedona. It did fine but I sure missed my 80. This year we've decided to drive the 80 to Phoenix for the tournament. We are hoping to see the Grand Canyon and spend 2 nights in Sedona before we hit Phoenix. Looking like we will be in Sedona on March 27 for a day of exploring. Is there anyone who wants to join us for the day and show us around? It would be great to meet some local cruiser enthusiasts and wheel with them.

After Phoenix we head to LA and then home. We will be on the road for just over 2 weeks. If there are any contacts in the LA, or maybe even Pismo area, who want to help some Canadians explore your beautiful country for a day or two with their Cruisers let me know.

Cheers

Sent you a PM.

Thank you. I am thinking this will be more fun than the stock jeep we had last year.

I could potentially meet up in the afternoon on the 27th. I work in the morning, but could be in Sedona just after lunch.

Cool. PM me you phone # if you like and I will touch base when we are on the way. Clunky and I have exchanged contact info.

It looks like I got my date a week late as we will actually be in Sedona on MARCH 20th for the day. This week I will be booking a hotel in Sedona for March 19 and 20. Sorry about the date correction but glad I noticed it now and hope it still works for you guys to meet up.

I've made a couple of connections from your club regarding Sedona. Thank you. I'm getting more excited about the trip.

Looking for Grand Canyon advice as well. We are hoping to see the Grand Canyon for the first time. We would be arriving late on Sunday March 17. This would give us the 18th and 19th to see the area. At this time of year is it worth staying for 2 days or should we do 1 day at the GC and 2 days in Sedona instead? Looking for any advice on what to see and do at the Grand Canyon. Is there anything less traveled that would be interesting to see? I am not even sure where to stay when there. Recommendations?

Thank you

Sadly the North rim is closed until May 2019. Not a lot of option for off road on the south rim.

Where would one see a great view of the canyon in March? Is it a stop and admire it for a few hours and then move on type of thing? Maybe I should take an extra day driving down to stop in Salt Lake City to view the Cruiser collection instead of 2 days at the Grand Canyon?

If you're camping, or could camp, there are spectacular places to overnight along the north rim east or west of the "north rim" proper - in lower, warmer terrain. Or you could make a day trip of it staying in Kanab, Fredonia or Marble Canyon.

For me the South Rim is for people that have never been to the North. I dont want to say dont go but because the South Rim is easier to get to its much more touristy and one main road.
Much more to offer on thew North rim and a perfect area to be in August.

So that's 2 votes for the north rim. If we are coming in from Salt Lake City direction where would be best to stay? I see Google Map brings us through Kanab and Fredonia to get to the North Rim. Maybe 1 night in Fredonia and 1 night in Marble Canyon on the way to Sedona? Does that seem reasonable? I have decided against pulling the Escape travel trailer so we need a hotel, B&B or similar for 2 adults, a 14 year old and 12 year old.

Well upon further review it doesn't look like there is much for accommodation in Fredonia. Kanab looks like it has options. This is great info guys. Thank you so much.

Antelope Canyon.

We plan on seeing the North and South rims of the Grand Canyon and also Sedona. Wondering, with limited time, should we attempt to see Antelope Canyon? I am assuming it is by guided tours only that you see the amazing scenery that is on Google.

Can you get close to the north rim in March? At what point on the road do they close It? Maybe skip the north if it is closed maybe try Antelope and then the south rim? Thoughts?

The north rim lodge (the NPS lodge, campground, etc) is located atop the Kaibab Plateau, which is over 9000 ft. It's snowed in until mid-May, and the main paved road to the NPS lodge is closed until then. But there are other roads off of the plateau, at lower elevations, that go out to the rim outside of the Park.

I'm at the edge of my comfort zone for disclosing place names on the internet, but, an out-and-back day trip from Kanab or Marble Canyon to here would make for an excellent tour of the Grand Canyon and Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument.

It's breathtaking country and puts you right on the rim. The roads could get muddy and impassible (so as not to destroy them) if you catch it in a storm cycle, so keep an eye on that, but it's typically dry and March should be beautiful at those elevations.

Feel free to PM with questions.

I didn't realize it was a such a high elevation. Thank you for this info. When we get to the area I guess it will be a decision based on weather.

yes, guided tours - I found it totally worth it and would go again (we had brilliant sunshine outside, no idea how it looks when overcast) - budget a half day for this if staying in Page

you can either hire on with a tour company in town - 2 are right on the main drag - or you drive out to the Antelope Canyon parking lot and sign up there - cost is the same unless you are doing the "special photo-op package" or somesuch
