Holy sh!t. I am surprised I let a scammer get me that far into conversation. I just got off the phone (totally different number) with Dave. Super nice and legit guy. He does have a deposit on the engine and someone is getting a hell of a deal. I’m pissed that a scammer wasted my morning. I’m going to leave the above messages posted so someone can see how smoothly they operate. That said please note my above responses are not directed to the real Dave. I do feel that the real Dave is a legit upstanding member of the community. That being said I am number two on the list so who knows, I might get lucky.

Nice chatting with ya Dave and I will look you up next time I’m in Seattle.

One more thing. This was the beginning of the text messages. But like I said, not Dave. Damn I still can’t believe they talked to me that long. Ugh!

Chad, it was great to talk with you. I appreciate your posting back to clear up that this wasn't me. And I'm even happier that you didn't send the scammer any money!!

Boy, that escalated quickly.

Wow. Just read up start to now. Changed in a hurry. Thanks for the open info @wileycoyote

Was second guessing my 1hd-t purchase for a second. Now I'm not, lol!

I believe the looming tariffs will be a hiccup in used part prices, as I don't think they will stay in place and sellers will adjust because the market is here and sellers need to sell. While that is an opinion, I believe in it. Still, the thing that will make me wrong or at least seem so, is the fact that availability vs time is not on our side, regardless of a tariff.

Who will develop the gateway check box for "I am not a scammer"?

The scammer got your # from the PM somehow, or elsewhere on the forum from previous posts I'm guessing? That is super creepy. So glad you stood your ground and didn't send the money. What a disaster that would have been.

My number is blasted all over so I’m sure I’m not hard to find. Still, I will be even more cautious now. I’m just scared when they are able to communicate with a voice box via ai to eliminate their accent.

wow, that is wild.

After reading 2 similar posts about this type of scam I ran a basic prompt “find any phone numbers” on the basic free version of ChatGPT to search for phone numbers listed in the 40/55 series tech forum. It returned multiple results. To be clear…I’m a very basic computer user. I can only imagine what someone who actually knows computers could do.

Got some if you need it ;)
Problem now is the uncertainty in how much the tarrifs will be . Shipments get delayed and rerouted in this current climate and nobody wants to pay a ridiculous amount on top of an already expensive purchase .

"kindly"
Is it rude to say that noone that speaks American English as their first language ever uses that phrasing? I never heard it growing up and wasn't raised under a rock...

Saying this as it does help to weed out scammers
