So I put a new gear and cap into my passenger seat today. Put it all back in. Nothing. Pulled it all back apart and just plugged the motor in. This way I could see if the issue was the motor or some binding in reassembly. Still nothing. Popped the motor open. The commutator was completely covered in black carbon. So disassembled and cleaned it off with a 800 grit paper. Looks shiny and polished. Put it back and checked the seating of the brushes. Plug it back into the truck and it works for about 5 seconds.
The brushes are looking a bit small/worn and I'm wondering if they aren't the problem. I've gone to powering it on the bench. Seems if I open it up, Put everything back it will run for a few seconds, then nothing?
Little stumped. Anyone ever source brushes for these motors?

Looks like the brushes are 4.43mm x 4.43mm
Internet search doesn't bring up much. Thinking it might be easier to source a used motor assembly

I had the exact same problem and was thinking in your direction. I swapped in some manual/cloth seats.

Brushes either make contact or they don't. Since the motor will run when power is first applied we may assume the brushes are still long enough and spring pressure great enough to keep them seated. Look carefully at the windings and see if there a 'thermal' of any kind inline with them.

"a 'thermal' of any kind inline with them. " Can you elaborate? Not quite sure what you mean. I agree about the brushes but I have never really experienced this with a motor before.

Some electric motors have 'thermal protection', I don't know that , that is the case with anything on the Land Cruiser or not.

A thermal protector disconnects the electrical circuit when a certain temperature is reached. They are normally inline with the windings...but can be elsewhere. Typically very small.

I've got some seat motors and am finally to the point where I think reworking them may be the best bet. Does anyone know of a source for the brushes? I'm sort of assuming that if the armature isn't all burned up, brushes are probably the culprit. But, I have limited knowledge here for sure.

I took my first one apart and after I freed it up, it turned, but I didn't have the tiny bolts in. Now the armature won't seat all the way. Can't figure that one out.

The 2nd one is apart now, but I'm not sure what's wrong other than maybe brushes.

Has anyone else managed to rework/fix one of the seat motors? Anything anyone can share?

Dredging this up, anyone found a good option for repairing these motors?
Thanks
