I know this has been covered before, particularly in the 100 series forum, but wanted to also ask the GX crowd, and start a pool.

My GX470 needs new seat covers. I had a half-baked repair/refresh done on the factory covers and it has not really worked out, so I'm looking at just outright replacing the covers with aftermarket leather. LSeat has new covers for $350, currently the Ridies covers are $525. I've received leather samples from each, and Ridies has a perfect match (light tan), while LSeat has one that is close but not perfect. This is important but not a deal killer either way.

Due to the labor involved in doing this job, I really just want to do it once (and I'll be DIY'ing it). So, my question is, has anyone has any feedback on either set of covers, in terms of fit/finish and longevity?

Some folks have said the LSeats are good, others say they look worn in a couple of years. There is hardly any info on the Ridies covers. Ridies says they are 100% leather vs. vinyl on the side of the LSeat coveres. I don't mind paying more for the Ridies covers if they are actually better/more durable. If not I'll just do the LSeat covers.

Thanks! Price is a bit higher but worth if if they are legit

I did some more research on the usautoseatcover.com covers and the reviews were mixed - some stating they were wearing out early, some saying they were good. They also don't offer the headrest covers; with the seat bottoms and backs, plus the armrests, I'd be looking at $835 for the set, which is pretty steep. If they are inconsistent I'd rather just roll the dice on a set of LSeat covers.

Any other feedback - either way - on how LSeat or Ridies covers have actually performed? I'm now tempted to just split the difference and get a set of Ridies.

Sorry - didn't see this until now @Rednexus. My experience:

LSeat: I put this leather in my 80 4 to 5 years ago. It showed wear marks after two years and several tears developed in 4 years and 20k miles. Pretty disappointing.... I did go ahead and buy another bottom from LSeat and replaced it a couple months ago.

USAautoseatcover: I put these in our 460 a year ago - just the bottoms actually since the tops looked pretty good. I was surprised at how well the ecru color matched with the new leather, and that was a big selling point for me since I wasn't doing a complete and full replacement. It's been about 15 months and they still look like new. So far so good.

I got nothin on Ridies.

No problem, thanks for the feedback! Will definitely be skipping the LSeats and probably rolling the dice with Ridies.

Let me know your thoughts. I need to put some covers in my 460 until I can have the extra cash to have my front and rear seats done with new foam and leather/alcantara.

Another thread on Ridies

I saw that one too. Looks like Ridies are not a sure thing either unfortunately, but additional research indicated they are probably better than the LSeats.

Someone also recommended these, but they are a full $1K and currently sold out....

@Jacket used usautoseatcover.com on his 460

Do these go over existing factory seat upholstery or are they replacements?

FYI I did some recon on the USA Auto Seat Covers. Some of their google reviews (for other non-Toyota makes) are kind of spotty as well. I did drop an email to Mosely Motors to see if they'll have their GX seat cover in stock any time soon, and frankly might pull the $1K trigger on those if they are an option. The reviews on the Mosely covers on the 60/80/100 series forums are rave.

Another option is a set of these, which are nominally more expensive than Ridies. However I really, really like the OEM leather feel and kind of hate slip on covers in general.

Found another option (over in the 100-series section again). These guys offer all 3 rows for around $1,600. US-based (OKC) and appear to have good reviews. I ordered some samples and will give them a ring and get a cost for just the 1st row when I'm ready to pull the trigger. Given the overall sketchiness around Ridies this could be a better option, and I'd be wiling to pay a pit more if they check out.

Just to close the loop on this, I got samples from all 3 suppliers and ended up ordering new seat covers in Ivory from LeatherSeats.com. For the fronts only they were $720 shipped (10% off Black Friday sale). Both the Ridies and LeatherSeats.com leather were fairly thick and a perfect color match for my OEM seats, although the LeatherSeats.com leather was a bit more supple. The LSeat leather looked/felt thin and cheap.

What pushed me out of the Ridies camp was the multiple reports of poor quality and customer service in the 100 series forum and their email tone with me when I asked if there was a planned price increase. Ridies also posted in this forum - where I asked them to respond to the reports of issues - and they were silent.

The LeatherSeats.com seats are USA made/cut and have a 3 year warranty - they seemed legit when I talked to them on the phone. I ultimately decided it was worth a bit more money to use a reputable vendor for USA-made covers. Hopefully they pan out as they were 2X the cost of LSeat covers and $200 more than Ridies, and they are leather on the tops and vinyl on the side (not full leather). I really want to be "one and done" with this job :).

I'll install the covers sometime this winter and update my build thread and link it back to here.

Did you get these installed? If so, what do think so far? Looking at doing the front seats in my 08 lx570, maybe just the bottoms if the color matches. Well, heck they don't list the lx570 on the website. I'll email them anyway

Yes. More info in my build thread. Very happy with them.
