searching for a new or rebuild brake booster

Yes i tryed search... i remember reading a post awhile back about a guy who rebuilds brake masters and boosters... but now i can't find it..... any one out there rember who and where and how to contact the fella???? my booster is hissing at me and it's gone all spongey...

When the booster in my 84FJ60 failed, I took it to the only (supposedly) rebuilder in Denver. The guy who runs the shop was quite helpful and willing to discuss boosters. He ran some quick tests on my booster and then told me he couldn't fix it. Apparantly some part inside cracks and a replacement isn't available. He said that that part was available for earlier boosters, but not mine. He did have a rebuilt one in stock that was almost the same as mine but the input shaft was shorter - about a half inch. I bought it and made a longer clevis to thread on to the shaft and it works fine. Anyhow your booster may be rebuildable, maybe not.

btw - when it failed, the pedal went rock hard and had no power assist.

ok so mine is hissing real bad... and have to pump 3 time to get good braking... and yes i bled the piss out of the system... 2 big bottles of DOT 4.
i still need to try new hose... but the hoses look ok no cracks.....

I rebuild boosters also in Atlanta. I also heard about a guy in Seattle(?) who does it also. WHat I was told by my booster guy was that early drum boosters were no problem. All FJ 60/62/80 boosters were no problem. The only issue was with the early disc brake big boosters in the late 70s. I charge $165 so if you find it for $125 jump on it!

ok soo here is another thought.... pull annother booster out of a 4runner or somthing... newer... might that equal more power?? 125~200 is kinda steep but not horrible... but if somthing out of a pick and pull would bolt in... has any one tried this??

yep, damn near any toyota booster bolts up, fj60/2.........mini, latter truck..........prolly just about any Toyota master, some might need to be fliped upside down but the pattern is the same on both ends either way ya turn em. Just need to watch the clearence, I recall 9" being the max diameter.

BUT from what I have noticed a bad booster will NOT feel spongy, it will feel rock hard and be VERY hard to stop. All boosters hiss if you listen to them. I suspect you have something else going on.........bad master?

there is a test to check the booster.....I can do it but not type it. Maybe run motor, pump pedal, hold foot on pedal, turn car off......if the pedal drops all the way then the booster is bad? dang it all......its easy to do.........

HEY pimp, i have a 79 fj40, and booster is out, will those toy mini truck boosters work? about a 87 mini 4x4 was in the yard, two days ago.
New master as of about 5 months ago, just rock hard brakes as of about a week ago.

Any other interchange info like this or even about this?

hmm i guess it could be bypassing.... its got no leaks .... and nothing running down the firewall... but i havn't f'ed with brakes in general for a while. i'll get a rebuild kit and see what that does...
