Now that you are so good at it, you can come over and install the inner spindal seal that I frogot to install when I replaced my Newfield.

Why are the cone washer so hard for you to get out? I've never really had a prob with mine.

Glad you replaced it. Did you remember to grease the thing?

Hey Landtoy, I always forget something too. I ususally remember before I get the tire on though. So I'm ot completely finished.

the cone washers are a bitch -- i don't know, i just don't want to hurt the flange with my diesel arms -- :D

i greased it too -- :)

Do you still remember the part # for this seal? I did my repacked last weekend and I didn't change the mangle seal.

eric,

How did this seal get "mangled" to begin with? I assume that's not the original since it doesn't have the 1/4" layer of brake dust. This was the new seal from your repack a couple of weeks ago, right?

It was all in the karma of that weekend. I put the hubs on as I have countless times without issue, but that weekend really tested everyone's resolve to completing the axle job that weekend.

Bad birf
2 Bad axles
bad clip
bad spindle
lost package by Delta Dash

and one of the nastiest contaminated axle housings I've ever seen.

Everyone that has trouble with cone washers needs to go buy a 3# brass hammer. I've never had a lick of trouble from them.

Maybe I'm just not a :princess:

Amen Doc. 3# Brass hammer, back the nut to the end...thump it hard and all will be well.

No projectile washers that way too.

Is the top one supposed to be the mangled one? I can't tell much difference between the two.

the bottom one is mangled -- look along the grey seal circumference --

I had problems with the cone washers on my truck when I went to rebuild the front end. I beleive someone over torqued them when they did whatever to the hub last. The broken stud was evidence to this. When the washers can out 2 days later after banging and PB they came out with a wimper and were heavily grooved.

I've since replaced them and they come out easily now that they aren't over torqued. I'm not really sure what the point of this post is. Originally I was defending Eric, but I think I'm hurting his case now. :flipoff2:

Agreed, although for the tough ones, some of us have special cone washer removal tools machined out of bronze. :flipoff2:
