Been doing some maintenance on my 99 100 series (242k miles) since I bought it about a month ago. Its been well maintained, but some items needed attention (plus I like working on Landcruisers).

Anyway.....without going into too much detail I've noticed that my GPH (gallons per hour) on the scangauge has dropped to .46 from .52 at full warmed up idle with all electrical loads turned off. The last change 20 miles before this test was replacing both before cat O2 sensors. I'm thinking it could drop a bit more.

This seems like a simple way to measure the efficiency and maintenance levels.....curious what other are seeing? Has anyone ever looked at it?

That's a pretty small change to trust fully, those numbers will move around a bit just with ambient temperature fluctuation. I think real fuel consumption data requires just that, lots of data averaged over similar operating conditions. All the maintenance is helping, I'm just not sure you can trust the gauge to be that precise. That GPH idle number is what keeps me warm and fuzzy on winter trips when I let it idle through snack, photo, and potty stops. 1/2 a gallon per hour at idle convinces me to leave it running in contrast to 7+ GPH when rolling along at 80 mph which makes me want to sell. I suggest focusing on fuel consumption under load, that's what counts and that's where you'll see the improvements magnified.
