Would like to get a proper assessment of this s*** show from some pros on MUD. I reached out to @nikramos regarding his add for a 100 series upper hatch door. He has been a member since 2006, 18 threads and 298 messages. I looked through his communication and didn't see anything out of line. I asked if it was still available and he sent me an email (possible red flag). He confirmed it was available and requested my address to verify shipping cost. He even text me additional photos from alternate angles as if he really does have the part and decided to keep it after the payment was sent. We agreed on a price, and he asked me to Venmo him the money, which I do not use. I agreed to send money via PP. Long story short the claim is the money never arrived; it did (see PayPal confirmed screenshot). I have exchanged 91 emails with him as of today still asking me to prove I sent the payment along with numerous texts (see email in pic for reference). I have been scammed before but never on this platform, from someone who appears to have been a long-time member AND is actively still communicating with other members while all of this is taking place. I can live with taking an L as I know Karma is a MF that will get you back! But if this is someone abusing the MUD forums and taking advantage of the good people that exist in the LC community I would request, they be removed from the site if at all possible as they currently exist. I am posting pics of the email address and phone number used along with screen shots of the exchange of which he has posted after I sent the money his son has decided to keep the part. Maybe they figured out a way to hijack someone's account, but I haven't seen that happen before. Happy to answer any question. Watch out for this member name for now!

How did he get your email? Did you supply it in a PM or did he just randomly email you? If you didn’t give it to him in a PM you were likely scammed by someone else who saw your post in the wanted add and found your email address through your old posts and sent you an email. Never pay PayPal friend and family. There’s very little ways to get your money back that way.

I’m also confused, why did you send money after he said it wasn’t available? Or is this a different transaction?

Email and not a DM is a massive red flag. Dispute with PP but this is likely an expensive lesson in vigilance. Sorry this happend.

He did not post it as sold or unavailable until after the transaction took place. My email wasn't provided directly.

There were many red flags.

1. You received an email with out providing your address. That should have been a full stop, sounding all the alarms.
2. User location says SF Bay Area, part listed in Dallas. Explainable, but warrants sniffing out the discrepancy. Upon further invetigation looking at the listing, it appears that his son lives in Dallas, so maybe listing for his son. But, then I ask myself why isn't his son listing it himself? If the son has a 100 series, he is capable of navigating the internet without the fathers support.
3. The MUD user name does not in anyway resemble or reflect the email (Mac Part), or PP user name (Danaijah Loftin)

Its possible the user has been hacked. I suspect the 91 emails are with the scammer and you are not going to get anywhere with a resolution on this.

You got scammed. Handed in a silver plate. C'mon guys............. 2+2........................

Not expecting a resolution and obviously I'm the only one to blame for sending the money. I think it's unreasonable to assume that someone email should match their forum name in some way. This person is obviously using the mud forum, wether they are the account owner or not, for reasons not appropriate and this is proof of such activity with communication via multiple platforms. I think what I'm trying to figure out is if there is something that can be done or do the moderators just ignore this account and allow this individual to continue using mud to take advantage of others as they have others listings up for sale. I aspire to be as smart as the MUD elitist one day!

Great job detective. If the account has been compromised what's the play??
Nothing. All you could do (wrong) was already done. Just put 2 + 2 next time so it doesn't happen again. Sorry, it sucks.
At this moment, you're just assuming his account was compromised.

One thing for sure, Danaijah will a fun weekend.

What the hell are you talking about calling me a scammer. I did not email you or received your payment I responded to your question and answered you that it is not available since my son decided to keep it since his own hatch just got damaged so will use it. We had no other communication

Scammers use the forums all the time. Not just this one. I can tell you Woody tries but posting your personal email, phone number or any other personal information on an open forum is what scammers look for. They used what you posted against you. I suggest going and editing it out of that post to help you in the future.

91 emails and other obvious red flags and you still sent him the money. Not gonna feel sorry for you since you immediately identified me as a criminal. Karma is a bitch

I didn't post any of my personal information on the forum that I recall but I'm sure it's all out there somewhere!

Thanks for the response, sorry for the confusion and misunderstanding of the situation. Clearly in the wrong here not understanding what happened on my end. My apologies...

Looks like the smart play is to buy local or new only in the future as it seems there are more and more cases of scams and fraud daily. My apologies to @nikramos for the confusion and thanks to everyone else for pointing out the obvious once more.

I just went through this recently. Looks like Jan 1, 2013 you posted your email in a thread. When someone tried to scam me, they went back a couple of years to find my email. Look through your posts and edit them.

Lots of good sellers on here. Don’t let that deter you. Just make sure you message them and don’t deal through email if you receive an unsolicited email. Another way to be careful is to not post in the For Sale thread…just PM the seller…that way no one from the ‘outside’ can see you are interested.

Several other forums I’m in make the classifieds private and only members can access. The way it is set up now I think anyone can see them? I could be wrong.

Thank you for this, very helpful

Not sure if it's been said NEVER NEVER ever send payment friends and family Unless the person is that. Now you have no way to object the payment with paypal . Your money is gone .
