I bought this 40 and it had the 350 mounted. I've never messed w/ anything like this before and want to make sure the mounts that are installed are ok. They don't look as "beefy" as I would suspect the mounts to be. There are only two of them total. Is that enough? Here are some pics...

definitely home-grown but if they are holding up and you are OK with them, let 'em be. You could always replace with some of the more traditional designs but this won't be a bolt-in and go deal and could cost over a grand depending on who's doing the work.

Regarding other mounts, look for one in the rear. The ones made for this purpose are typically bolted to the back of the transfercase and go out to a mount on each framerail. But lordonlyknows what you may have.

As the 40 sits now, the engine and tranny are mated but have not been run. There has been nothing done to test/stress these mounts. The tranny is "held" into place by a strap for now (as it came from the PO) and I am waiting on an adapter from Advance Adapters to mate my TC and tranny. So, other than these two mounts and the temporary strap, nothing else is in place. I have been looking at this tranny crossmember support from AA, but have also been thinking about trying to fab my own up.

How much distance do you have between the pipe and the frt pumpkin/driveshaft? Looks really close.

I think these are the TRANSDAPT universal motor mount listed on JCWhitney.com. They should be just fine. I think it just looks a bit strange the way they had to be engineered above the frame. I suspect most applications these would have fit between the frame rails.

I ran across them looking for motor mounts for my SBC.

so i guess you could use either rear mount. Never had an auto but several SBC-powered TLC's and I have always used the rear mount I linked with the Transdapt mounts in the front with no issues.

I,d be a little concerned that there is no rubber insulation on the front motor mounts .Have done this before when I was younger I think you,ll find you will torque the week spot out of the mount without some.

You're right on the mounts being JCWhitney. I looked them up and here they are. But like dargreg mentioned, it does worry me a bit that they don't have any bushings with them. I'm wondering if I can't use these mounts but try and put some bushings in there to buffer a little of the stress.

Well, after looking at these and doing some research, I'm going to trash them. The crossmember that runs under the motor is too close to the front pumpkin for my likes and I don't like the fact that they don't have any bushings. I emailed Matt Beir to get a quote on his mounts.

Looking at it are the pads not rubber ? Seems like the cross member going undernieth would give some extra protection to the bottom.

The problem I see is the PO didn't account for complete spring compression. When my springs compress, the pumpkin and driveshaft is going to be VERY close to that crossmember, possibly striking it. Also, after looking at it closer, the welds are pretty poor and after time I'd be willing to bet I'd break a motor mount sooner than later.
