Don't get me wrong, I totally support sb1070. It is something that we have needed to happen for a long time. I also support the legalization of marijuana and I say put a nice tax on it, but I didn't put that as a choice in this poll either. This "KINDA LAME POLL" with only "one-sided answers" was not to find out who supports or does not support sb1070. It was to see if the residual effects of this law, and the AZ boycott has affected anyone else in their line of work. That is what the poll is about. I guess I did miss the option of it hasn’t effected me at all, but no opinion could cover that. As I said before, “I’m not trying to stir the pot” or debate the validity of or your individual stance on the law.

In my line of work, the event / entertainment industry, it has been devastating! The reason I am out of a job... a single $350K annual event trade show job slated for September cancelled. Reason cited... Supporting the AZ Boycott moving it to L.A. Hence forth my entire scenic crew of 30, 2 additional department heads, and my own neck as the operations manager were severed. An additional production company who also took part in this event saw the loss of 40+ people. One event in support of boycott = so much AZ unemployment. That is what I’m talking about here. I also believe I’m the only club member in this line of work, but I could be mistaken, who knows it has been several years of club growth. I was just wondering if anyone else in their line of work has felt it, and it looks like right now according to the poll 3 of us have.

As for the other cities and their governments boycott of us, I could give a crap about that. It is the businesses, corporations, and private sector that I care about. As far as California's boycott of us; I say fine, and lets flip that power switch and turn their water faucet off as well. :flipoff2: them.

I know this boycott has even trickled down to business in Rocky Point. I was down there a couple weeks ago and spoke with a longtime friend who lives there in Cholla Bay and handles rental property. She said she had a long time, annual, week long, standing reservation of one of her B&B’s cancel because they cited that they were not going to fly into PHX and spend money on rental cars, food, and gas to travel there; That they were supporting the boycott and hoped she would understand. I also talked with just a local street merchant peddling rings and charms. He approached me and questioned me as to why and what all this boycott AZ was about, he understood and had no problem with sb1070 and legally going to the USA. He also said that the boycott was hurting their business. The conversation ended with him saying, “I have no problem with you amigo, you have no problem with me, why can’t we just get along as people… He paused and then said “it is our governments that have the problem”. I was kinda blown away by his take on it all.

Anyway, this is the type of stuff I was wondering about, and if it has had an effect on anyone else.

As for the spending, we did the house thing, and car thing, obviously we still travel, and are planning a trip to Sedona with an overnight hotel stay next weekend, the GF and I constantly go to movies, and local restaurants, and see local live entertainment. We purchase major household goods, and are looking at replacing a leather couch thanks to a Scottish deerhound and his partner in crime a black and tan coon hound. So I do, do my part there. I’m sick of the media coverage on events such as Go Daddy’s Christmas party last year, they made a profit, they had a huge party where their owner gave away thousands of dollars to employees every hour. I say good for them! Quit trying to put a negative spin on it, about how wasteful it was. That is the media spin that needs to go.

Sorry for the length, I have a little bit of time on my hands.

I'm sure getting their Police Chief and his body guard all shot up in a drug cartel ambush didn't help things from a tourism perspective either...

Yep, keeps me from making our annual trip (economy plays huge in this also). I feel for the folks there. I've developed relationships from the guy who launches the boat (and tells us which reefs are producing), to my favorite vender at the fish market who I can trust, to a little hole-in-the-wall store that stocks fresh cilantro.

Oh, how I miss the old days..:frown:

My view People in Washington and this administration are missing the point or are not seeing things as they really are. Let me try to explain my view on this subject . If i being a licenced driver drive my car 100mph in a 75 mile per hour zone I receive a ticket NOT for illegally driving but for speeding since I am a legal licenced driver. In order for one to be an illegal immigrant one would have to fill out their immigration document with false information
if this information turns up false them they are illegal immigrants. On the other hand if one just comes into a foreign country the USA example
with no paper work at all they are not immigrants but just criminals who are here just to receive - or take advantage of out weak system they take they don't give they don't have any intentions of becoming citizens of this country they are just here for their own self benefits and are criminals plan and simple and should be dealt with accordingly

Honestly, I see it as political propaganda more than anything else. It's not like an officer is going to change his racial stance because of 1070. If an officer wants you in handcuffs, they'll find a reason...

What's really happening here? Jan Brewer's election. She had nothing to stand for. Now she has a platform.

She put forth an education tax, but directed those taxes to the general fund. Then she pulled 3 million from the general fund for her election campaign.

She needs to win the hearts of conservatives somehow...

Yeah, the shooting happened the weekend prior to us going down. We actually thought twice about making the trip, but figured it would be safe with the presence of local, state, and federal police. I have to say RP was dead, but that could also have been because it was the weekend prior to the holiday weekend too.

So was it over drugs, or was it corrupt, disgruntle, ex policia. I know our media reported it as "drugs", but the ex / corrupt policia seemed to be what was being talked about by most the locals while we were there. I know that the current mayor / ex chief of police & the current chief of police have been trying to clean up the police force for the last couple of years now. I believe the last figures in the police force turn-over that I had heard of was around 43% being terminated or jailed as being corrupt.

The whole shooting reminded me of the feuding rival Mexican propane companies back in 2002 or was it 2003. A restaurant in Miramar beach area and the old Costa Brava Hotel in the Malcone were left in ruin within a week of each other when their massive propane tanks blew up. I don’t think it was ever proven, but it was speculated by local friends and business owners I know, that the hotel’s tanks that exploded were a power-move to take over the propane sales in RP by the #2 propane company, and the restaurant’s were a retaliatory strike by the #1 propane company. Maybe it was vice versa, but at any rate both the restaurant and hotel were destroyed, property was lost, and people were injured in the aftermath.

Mind you just like the shooting the propane incident was "gossip" in its true form, but it was what the locals were talking about, not what our media was reporting. I've always been one to think that there is usually some thread of truth in gossip, its just sifting through the BS that covers it is what is tricky. I'm not saying that all gossip starts from a truth, there are just malicious people out there that like to hurt others and you just have to really sort through it and see it for what it is.

im confused....does this mean I have to make an extra loop around Home Depot tomorrow morning to make sure im not spotted by the po-po when I pick up my rock movers? I already ask them before they get in my truck if they have their own rolling papers. Its one thing to share my weed and Corona after I give them each $20 for 8 hours of work, its another if I have to supply papers too.

I like that explanation. We should just call them International Trespassers.

I'm all for SB1070. As for this Boycott from Cali. and the L.A. area in general, They are overrun buy nonlegal people. Funny part is they want to Boycott us, But want us to send our power there in the summer so they don't have their rolling blackouts. WHAT A CROCK of SH** !!! I know because I used to to live in SO. CAL. I miss the beach , But would never move back. The Cali. Sign should read ... Welcome to California , Now speak spanish .

I'm no history major, but If'n I recollect proper, As California became the biggest producer of fresh fruit and vegetables, their demand for "Migrant Farmworkers", is probably the biggest single reason that illegal immigration ( and trespassing ) has been OVERLOOKED for the last couple of decades. Their farm profits and our produce prices would be a lot different had it not been for the cheap temporary labor force. Nowdays, the newspapers would call that Profitteering!

Being in the Ag business, I agree. Enforce the law first, and streamline the work visa program. Those who have broken the law shouldn't recieve a free pass and if they want to stay, start applying for a visa or path of citizenship or risk deportation.

This whole mess isn't what it used to be, people and drug trafficing has become a lucrative business, and adds the criminal twist. Hopefully SB1070 is opening some eyes.

Are you sure you don't work for the Rocky Point Tourism and Public Relations Ministry? 'Cause you sure paint a rosy picture of an quaint, quiet, low-key vacation spot...:lol::lol:

I don't think this law is opening anybody's eyes - and if, to what ?

someone wants those people, and someone wants those drugs

you can stop demand effectively only at the demand side not at the supply side, supply dries out or heads to other markets when there is no demand anymore

Well, Cut My Legs Off And Call Me Shorty. Why Don't we Start By Gettin' A New Prez. :hhmm::bang:

was he trying to immigrate to AZ or did he pass the AZ law

Hopefully to the voters (that the last several administrations and congress are out of touch, or don't want to stir the pot because of pollitical aspirations). I'm with you on the supply and demand thing, which comes back to enforcing the law.
