Don't get me wrong, I totally support sb1070. It is something that we have needed to happen for a long time. I also support the legalization of marijuana and I say put a nice tax on it, but I didn't put that as a choice in this poll either. This "KINDA LAME POLL" with only "one-sided answers" was not to find out who supports or does not support sb1070. It was to see if the residual effects of this law, and the AZ boycott has affected anyone else in their line of work. That is what the poll is about. I guess I did miss the option of it hasn’t effected me at all, but no opinion could cover that. As I said before, “I’m not trying to stir the pot” or debate the validity of or your individual stance on the law.
In my line of work, the event / entertainment industry, it has been devastating! The reason I am out of a job... a single $350K annual event trade show job slated for September cancelled. Reason cited... Supporting the AZ Boycott moving it to L.A. Hence forth my entire scenic crew of 30, 2 additional department heads, and my own neck as the operations manager were severed. An additional production company who also took part in this event saw the loss of 40+ people. One event in support of boycott = so much AZ unemployment. That is what I’m talking about here. I also believe I’m the only club member in this line of work, but I could be mistaken, who knows it has been several years of club growth. I was just wondering if anyone else in their line of work has felt it, and it looks like right now according to the poll 3 of us have.
As for the other cities and their governments boycott of us, I could give a crap about that. It is the businesses, corporations, and private sector that I care about. As far as California's boycott of us; I say fine, and lets flip that power switch and turn their water faucet off as well.
them.
I know this boycott has even trickled down to business in Rocky Point. I was down there a couple weeks ago and spoke with a longtime friend who lives there in Cholla Bay and handles rental property. She said she had a long time, annual, week long, standing reservation of one of her B&B’s cancel because they cited that they were not going to fly into PHX and spend money on rental cars, food, and gas to travel there; That they were supporting the boycott and hoped she would understand. I also talked with just a local street merchant peddling rings and charms. He approached me and questioned me as to why and what all this boycott AZ was about, he understood and had no problem with sb1070 and legally going to the USA. He also said that the boycott was hurting their business. The conversation ended with him saying, “I have no problem with you amigo, you have no problem with me, why can’t we just get along as people… He paused and then said “it is our governments that have the problem”. I was kinda blown away by his take on it all.
Anyway, this is the type of stuff I was wondering about, and if it has had an effect on anyone else.
As for the spending, we did the house thing, and car thing, obviously we still travel, and are planning a trip to Sedona with an overnight hotel stay next weekend, the GF and I constantly go to movies, and local restaurants, and see local live entertainment. We purchase major household goods, and are looking at replacing a leather couch thanks to a Scottish deerhound and his partner in crime a black and tan coon hound. So I do, do my part there. I’m sick of the media coverage on events such as Go Daddy’s Christmas party last year, they made a profit, they had a huge party where their owner gave away thousands of dollars to employees every hour. I say good for them! Quit trying to put a negative spin on it, about how wasteful it was. That is the media spin that needs to go.
Sorry for the length, I have a little bit of time on my hands.
