I know the economy was already in the pisser.... Just wondering how this is now effecting everyone here?

I have clients, and friends, on both sides of this issue. They all have arguments in favor of, or against, and all have some validity.

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, just seeing how others are fairing since it has been some time now that this boycott AZ crap has been in place. I wish I could say the things were same for me, but alas they are not. I just went through another layoff. Two different event companies since Feb. = two layoffs. Summers were always slow, but since the scrutiny on companies and their spending these days by the media, it has simply gotten ridiculous. If companies travel and hold big sales conventions, then they are reported as being wasteful. There is no thought in the fact that that is exactly what needs to happen to jump start this crappy economy again. SPEND, SPEND, SPEND! It also keeps the entire workforce to run sky harbor in a job, the shuttle drivers, the hotel staff to valet staff, restaurant owners and their busboys, and SO many others along the way stay employed by the sales convention dime. This 'watchdog' style reporting has just about killed the event industry and has really hurt the travel and hospitality industry. Now on top of that and all of the misinformation surrounding sb1070 you add the AZ boycott. Well, that seems to be the final stake in the AZ event industry heart. It has put so many of my coworkers and associates out of work and into an already stressed unemployment system. I might actually be forced to change my line of work if things don't turnaround soon, or travel out of state on a per job basis :bang:

This just bites!

We've actually have a so az congressional rep who supports the boycot. Somehow I don't think his stance is on the same line as his constituents...He is actually hurting the people who elected him.

It's called pandering. Obviously he plans on retiring after the mid-terms.

Oh, and I didn't vote either as there is no "I fully support SB1070 and the rule of law" selection.

This poll is kinda lame with only one sided selections. I've seen no lack of labor or affect on business. There is plenty of legal laborers from many nations readily available with temporary work visas if needed. The boycotts are a farce and done by the brokest cities in the country so they don't have much to spend in the first place. Oakland just announced there laying off a large part of their police and fire and pretty much said don't bother calling them for help because there will be no one to help if you have an emergency. When people like that boycott you I really just don't care.

Agreed!

Really who gives a damn what broke-ass Oakland thinks anyway?

Don't worry though. 1070 won't be needed for long after His Barackness makes all the illegals instant citizens with an Executive Order.

I did get screwed out of the Cypress Hill concert after they decided to boycott AZ. I went to the Deftones concert the next night though, so it's OK.
Deftones rocked the house BTW.

Option 6) Boycotts never work.

I had to change jobs anyway.
Now all my coworkers are not only legal, but have to pass a background check, get fingerprint ID cards, etc. (I'm kinda surprised I got hired.)

And we're expanding.
If anyone who's affected by the boycott wants to drive a van for a living, lemme know.

You should go out and buy three new cars, a boat, new home and motor home. Your not going to because you don't have the money. Companies are in the same boat as you. Plus before they can spend like this again shareholders will have to see some nice dividends coming in. It been over seventy-five years since the economy has been this bad. I don't see things turning around anytime some. I probably wouldn't see times like five or six years ago in my life time. I don't blame the media for this. If companies weren't wasting money it would have never hit the news. Somebody does something wrong and the news media reports it who is at fault? Times are bad but SPEND,SPEND, SPEND isn't going to make things better. This is what got us here today. The goverment has been trying to spend our way out of this for years now (both parties) and you see how well that has worked.

I am not trying to bust your chops and sorry for you losing your job but I really don't think SB1070 is the biggest reason for it.

It took me almost a decade to get a good SSN, therefore I fully support SB1070, I would be happy to show ID after such a long process. Boycott hasn't impacted my work.

I fully support SB1070 and the rule of Law.

We've seen a marked improvement in business over the past two months and I actually have a backlog of work. Granted, this backlog is NOTHING compared to what we were doing in 2002-2008 but it is quite litterally "tons" more work than we've had since 2008.

Economically speaking in a larger scope, I dont know how much longer the 48% of the citizens of this Country that pay Federal Income tax can keep holding it up.

It is indeed a complicated and multi-layered issue/problem. The media only inflames the topic by seemingly only presenting the extreme viewpoints from the far ends of the issue.

The days of Cronkite type reporting has been replaced by TMZ
