New poster to MUD, trolled here forever though.

So, took my 96 LX450 in for state inspection everything was fine except they failed it due to power steering leak. Do what??

SO this is where it gets weird....the inspector told me it was not a visual inspection that noticed the leak, he stated the inspection machine recognized it when he hooked it up? He said the machine determined it had low power steering pump pressure.

I thought I was pretty familiar with OBDII and have thought all day how that machine could determine my power steering pump was experiencing low pressure. I'm at a loss. Should I call bull****? Either the tech noticed it visually and blamed the machine, or perhaps someone on here clarify for me?

-Thanks in advance

Footnote: there is indeed a leak, the tech said high pressure hose, but not sure, about to start delving into that.

That's a fancy machine...should'a asked it how the HG was doin...:hmm:

did you fail for the flux capacitor as well or is that a different scam tool that tests that.

for them to actually test the p/s pump pressure they would have to hook up a gauge to the pump and check it that way

Yeah, total bull****. Take it to the next shop down the road, get it inspected then report the first d'bag.

Blinker fluid was probably also low on the OBDII check. Bleh

Wow, that's a new scam. Haven't heard that one before(and I've heard a :censor:-ton along the way).

Find another shop, tell all your friends to stay away from that one. Total bull****.

Take it back to then and tell them to hook it up and show you. Then raise hell like a total idiot but make sure there are other customers in the during that time.

Total bull****

You guys are a little behind the times! In Europe everyone knows the CTFC or 'Cosmic Torque Flange Converter' machine can detect low steering pressure AND HG failure point.....unfortunately it cannot detect a tester talking ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS!

regards

Dave

So, did some more digging, apparently it is required of the inspector to check the PS system.

"We check your power steering system. We make sure there is plenty of power steering fluid and that there are no leaks in the system. We check your master cylinder and make sure the fluid level is good and there are no leaks. We also check to make sure the belts are in good condition and that all the required emissions equipment is accounted for."

I just wanted to make sure that he knew, that I knew, that his bull**** system did not identify the low pressure, it was a visual inspection that noticed it.

This is the 2nd hassle I've had with a state inspection. Last year, I was overcharged on a safety inspection, I offered the inspection station owner a chance to give me my $5 back, he refused. I called the state investigator as pricing is regulated by the state, met the investigator up at the inspection place, the next day, he comes out and says the guy admitted to overcharging me, he handed me my $5 and said the owner would be receiving a ticket and $500 fine for violation of state laws. Guess you don't want to get caught slipping on these state inspections.

I thought Texas would be free of stupidity like this. This seems like a California problem. It must be all the liberals migrating to Austin :flipoff2:

Skkppy, for the most part we have been. We started this new two steps, one sticker bull**** last year and it's getting progressively worse.

Where in Texas are you?
