How would one shift it to neutral with the shifter not installed?

Is that a picture of your transmission above? if not, can you post a picture of yours from above? Basically you line up all three of the forks in the middle. they should move front to back with the exception of reverse which will only move one direction. If it is in reverse, 3, or 4 you have to push them to the side first before you can move them IIRC.

I won't get home before the sun gets down, but I will do my best to get a picture of MY Trans tonight... That picture isn't my Trans.. Sorry for the confusion... I meant to say that...

EDIT: I edited the last Trans picture to make sure to quell the confusion

New plan of attack going to get a magnet and then get that stupid detent spring out... Rains a coming so I gotta get to work!!

Success!!!!! I got the spring out!!!!! and I took a picture of my shifters!! Everything seems to be as it should... But would the middle shifter be my 1/2 gear shifter? I can't get it to move? The 3/4 and reverse shifters move... 3/4 being the left most and revers being the right most shifter, with the smaller middle shifter being 1/2... Does this sounds right?

Also how much marvel mystery oil per cylinder used to lubricate the heads??

bump for transmission help?!

to go into reverse would the right most shifter not need to be pushed out and then up? I don't think it is stuck in reverse I think the 1/2 (middle) shifter will not budge.... I vaguely remember not being able to move it when I was messing 'round in there.

Well exciting news! I FIXED THE TRANSMISSION!!! Tomorrow I'm picking up a battery, some 90w oil, spark plugs, and maybe a seat cover too ;) A buddy of mine is going to let me borrow his compression tester and I should have compression numbers late tomorrow night or early saturday!! I put in some Marvel Mystery Oil (two table spoons per cylinder) and I'm letting it soak over night! I'm going to turn it some more by hand before I put the battery on, and then hook it up and bump it a time or two to make sure the coil and starter motor are moving... then I'll see if she'll turn over!!!!!

I poured a little bit of 90w on the bar that the 1/2 gear shifter was on and then just sort of muscled it into moving... I guess it had sat for a little while and got hung up... +1 for me

No i missed my friend today at work... My fathers Prius decided to screw up today and I couldn't leave work... Have to consult my haynes manual to tonight because none of the hoses are hooked up under the cab... I'm getting up early to check everything out and hook some stuff up....

Any good diagrams you guys know of?? I literally have no idea of what goes where??? I'm pretty sure I have no smog stuff... As I have not cat and I don't have AC either... I know I have to hook a ventilation hose up... But it runs from the engine to the carb but does it go to the nib on the head or on the side of the block??

Compression tomorrow guys!! And also help with "plumbing the engine"? Weber 32/36 carb with no smog!

No compression.... Distributor points are bad.... Contemplating striping the engine bay and starting from scratch....

Once you start you cant go back! I thought in 1980 they used a single brake reservoir, are you sure its a 80? the top dosent appear to have split rear windows.. Anyway regardless for the money great deal!!! good luck..

I'm not sure about the single reservoir... The top I know is not original to the vehicle but it fits non the less....
