Hopefully this fire stays small. What a challenging place to fight a fire.

Oof.

I grew up in forest fire land. Always an itchy time of year.

Crossing fingers for good wind and some wet weather.

Wow! I missed a lot in this thread. All caught up for the moment.

I have a tent site all to my self at that moment. If anyone is in need I am open to sharing.

We are 40 short days from the start of Solid Axle Summit 9. It'll be here before you know it.

Please be sure to holler at any of our Outstanding Sponsors for any of your pre-SAS needs. These businesses support our LandCruiser community year round and we can't thank them enough.

If you haven't started your Preventative Maintenance yet I suggest bare minimum is grabbing a hand full of wrenches and double checking everything you see.
U-Bolts, shackle bolts, U-Joint bolts, exhaust flange bolts, steering components including the nut that holds the steering wheel on the shaft. Confirm your hubs do actually lock and the 4WD High / Low does actually engage.
Please have basic recovery items and know how to use them, a charged good fire extinguisher, a GMRS / FRS radio, handheld or hard mount just make sure it does work. Your lugnuts on all tires are tight including spacers for those that run them. A basic first aid kit is always good to have on hand as well.
Fell free to chime in with any other items that I may have overlooked.
Casey..

We have had very few cancellations this year. The waitlist is still in effect and are being filled in the order they have been received.

In all the years of going to Ouray I have never been let down with the available trails and activities. I'm ready to be in the mountains.

Check out this Pic of Black bear. Looks like slides took out 1/2 the switch backs . They are starting to clear it Thursday . Never seen it this bad

Here is a little more on the subject

Hey guys and gals. I am thinking of hitting the Great Sand dunes on the way home. Mapquest is showing to take 50 over to take 114 to 17 and down. I have taken 50 over the mountain, so I am ok with that. I will be pulling a 30' gooseneck and want to know if the other roads are friendly toward the size trailer.

I know this is a little off topic, but figured some of you may have taken that route. The other is to head south to Durago and go over Wolf Creek pass. I am more worried about the Million Dollar hwy :)

Thanks
Rob

I do 114 all the time (30-40), there are some pretty tight turns in the beginning of a Canyon, but several 18 wheelers and seen several Goosenecks on it as well, so my opinion is yes. It is really beautiful High Country. From Saguache myself I do CR X to Moffat, also some tight 90 degrees there, but never seen any Larger vehicles on it but very light Traffic. 285 an easier Option over to 17. But @TheBlackSheep should also provide guidance/input, imo.

Thank you. I just read a little on line and I may skip it. I think I will stick to hwy 50 as I have done that in the past, unless anyone can talk me into it.

I did it a couple of months ago. Non issue.

I prefer Cochetopa Pass (114). Have taken it with a crew cab, long bed Dodge 2500 pulling a 38 (I think) foot gooseneck hauling an international dump truck without issue. It’s not as steep as Monarch (Highway 50), thus not as hard of a pull. It’s also often nigh empty. No traffic to worry about beside the odd group of big horn sheep. The curves are tight in the little canyon between the highway 50 turnoff and the pass peak, but not unmanageable, especially in the summer when everything has melted off. HIGHLY recommend 114 and avoiding the tourists on Monarch.
