Brian Beeman thinks in his 26 years that it is the *customer* that is the lowest form of life? or that car salesmen are one of the "highest" forms of life?

This guy is confused, and Toyota should strip him of his dealership and give it to someone with a different perception of business.

Why did Kerney Mesa Toyota answer your letter to Toyota Corp. in Torrance ? Did you ever get a reply from them?

For what it's worth, when I lived in San Diego I had my trucks serviced at TRUX (didn't sell me new parts when reman was good enough, very competent mechanics. I believe John was the name of the manager at the Miramar Rd. shop) and at Rose Toyota in Mission Gorge. "Q" was the service manager at Rose, if you want customer service, see if he's still there....I can't vouch for the sales department, never used them.

Funny thing about general managers is that he will be at another dealership next week. They do not seem to stay in one place very long. I will definately stay away after seeing this. Slowag I live off of Miramar Road where is "TRUX" and do you have a phone number. Looking for a non dealership mechanic for service. Thanks.

I CC'ed Kearny Mesa Toyota the letter sent to Toyota Corp. No response yet from corporate, but I would expect to see some sort of form letter indicating that franchises use different sales practices and although they may not agree, it's within their latitiude to exercise their own policies.

It always seems like the left hand doesn't know what goes on with the right hand. I had all my warranty work carried out at KMT, but when you go to the sales side of the business.....you'd think it was a totally different entity.

Let this be a heads-up for everyone to not take their business to KMT. I went through this with them in early March, after putting a deposit down and preferencing an FJC in January, then I got the same "oh by the way..." crap. My argument became quite heated with the manager in the middle of the floor, to the point where he said he had the right to sell it for whatever he wanted to. That attitude prompted me to pull my deposit.

The fact is, very few dealers in San Diego are selling for MSRP. Poway was good enough to honor their promise of MSRP, but I don't know what they're doing now.

$6,995 seems to be the magic number that all dealers aspire to mark-up. Whether this is through adding wheels and tires or leather or other things you can purchase for significantly less, it's 'the bar.'

When you go to purchase your vehicle, shop around a bit, and don't buy from the salesman who trots out to meet you. MOST dealerships have either a Fleet or an Internet Department. Some have both. They're here to save you money, use them.

I haven't been down to San Diego dealerships, but I have been to most dealers in the rest of the southern California counties. Some of them I did not put a deposit down at, some of them I did (I want a 6-speed Sunburst with as few option packages as I can get away with...I can add most of what I want through the parts department for way less than what it costs on the rig).

For my money, the places that are selling at MSRP (and will probably sell below that number within six months) through the Fleet/Internet departments are the way to go. Crown Toyota, Claremont Toyota, and Rancho Santa Margarita Toyota (which, BTW, will sell at MSRP without going through the Fleet Dept) are all places you should look into using. Crown had FJCs on the lot (Titaniums, Black Diamonds and a Sunburst) when I was there last. Claremont had two Voodoo Blues (and a few Priusii ... Priuses? ... whichever. Which are supposed to be hard to get)

Family Toyota will not sell to you unless you get wheels and tires and other BS, Power wants a premium, as do Longo, Costa Mesa and Elmore.

While the bloom isn't quite off the rose yet, I have noticed that the FJCs aren't flying off the lots; they are sticking for longer than I would have expected for a car that salescum say is "limited" and "rare." I would expect that there will still be plenty of the 35,000 available through the rest of the sales year.

with all due repect

Dude, you need to chill out a bit. Don't you have anything better to due than screw around writing pointed letters like an old lady? Its the reality when you want a vehicle like an FJ in its first couple of months to market that dealers are going to try to make some money on them. Ever own a business????

Besides, Kearny Mesa Toyota is a UAG dealership (Penske) which means they don't mark up vehicles with BS "Market pricing" like 9/10ths of all the other Toyota dealers are doing on the FJ (and Prius).

Get a life, and if you find a FJ for sticker without any dealer add-ons let us all know.

With all due respect...

...I don't feel that mobi-arc is at all out of line. More people should tell the manufacturer how they're treated by their dealerships, rather than just marking "satisfied, like the salesman said to do" on their CSI cards before sending them in.

Just because a dealer doesn't blatantly put "market price" on the sticker doesn't mean that they're not adding it in options like wheels, tires, rust proofing, lojack and Scotchgard fabric protection.

I have a real issue with people who tell others not to speak their mind, or not to speak up when they feel they're being taken advantage of. I'm glad that the letter was written and equally thrilled that it was posted here; public opinion will hurt almost any bad business, and fix what may simply be a bad business practice.

Any dealership that is adding - at the dealership - options that a buyer doesn't want and refuses to remove them or will not sell the vehicle without adding 'stuff' is in violation of federal law and probably operating outside of their marketing agreements with the manufacturer they represent. There's a reason there's a Monroney sticker on each and every new car.

Dealerships love to work with uninformed buyers.

I too had a problem with a couple of Toyota Dealerships. One concerned a damage claim on a brand new 4Runner I bought that obviously occurred during shipping and the second involved pricing and sales practices when I bought my second new 4Runner.

In both cases I wrote letters to Toyota Motor Sales expressing my displeasure with those two dealerships. In both cases, I got a response from the regional Toyota Representive, and my problems were resolved almost immediately.

The "Dude" doesn't need to get a life. He is right to write the letter, and as a consumer of a product, spending his hard earned cash, has every right to dictate what does and does not come on the vehicle he is purchasing. It is his money, right? It is his right as a consumer to not have to take a screwing just because he wants to purchase a FJC. I have owned several Toyotas and every dealer I have bought from has tried that dealer add on crap, to which my response was "No, I don't want it" and you know what, they didn't add it on. Why should he pay a $1,000 dollars extra for $100 worth of crap he doesn't want in the first place?

Obviously he will have to shop around and I hope he finds a FJC without having to take a hosing.

On the other hand, the next time you buy a new Toyota, make sure they kiss you when you are on your way out of the lot with your new purchase.

So now we have a KMT salesman coming on here defending their practice of adding options, w/out telling the buyer upfront.

There have been plenty of people who have found FJCs for MSRP, obviously you aren't an enthusiast or you would already know that.
:flipoff2: minus :D

reply to MSRP

@ Findlay Toyota in Las Vegas you can buy it for MSRP with no mark-up or add-ons. I think it is the only dealership in Vegas that doesn't mark them up.

Longo Toyota in El Monte, CA is selling at MSRP with no added dealer crap.

I've seen msrp with no add-ons at both dealers in my area:rolleyes:

You sound like a car salesman. Go back under your rock.

No objection to the "additional dealer markup." Some will pay the premium to be first on their block....I'm not one of them. Decide to fxxx every KMT buyer for paint coating and lojack, no problem; I'll buy elsewhere. What I object to is the 45 minutes wasted on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and the shady, sleazy way the non-negotiable dealer add-ons are sprung at the last minute. If KMT has a problem with me buying my future trucks elsewhere, change the policy. If KMT has a problem with me posting my correspondence, don't give me a reason to write a letter in the first place. With respect to writing pointed letters like an old lady, writing a letter to the owner is how civilized educated people express their opinion and as a business owner, if a client has a problem, I appreciate it when they pick up the phone or write a letter and let me know.......so with all due respect.....get fxxxed.

Pretty strong wording for your FIRST POST.

So is your solution to this to bend over, grab your ankles and let the stealership give it to you?

I applaud people like Scott for not giving KMT his business and going elsewhere.

Congratulations, you have made a first impression!

Unfortunately, it is that you are a tool! :flipoff2:
