Last Sunday I bought my first Land Cruiser and I was beyond excited. It was a 2004 with 184,000 miles and in perfect condition, both inside and out.

Driving to work on Wednesday I was stopped at red light and rear-ended by someone doing about 30-35 mph.

I'm trying to be optimistic but I'm pretty sure it's totaled. My excitement has turned to devastation and frustration. Please be careful out there folks, often times it's the paved roads that are the most dangerous.

Painful to see...

Even if it does end up being totalled, it did seem to protect you pretty well and it is replaceable (even if it is a bit of a pain in the ass to do so).

I'm sorry to hear that! Is it totaled? I wouldn't think that damage would be enough to total the car. Depending on what your insurance (or the other driver's) says...this may partially pay for some steel bumpers? Just trying to be optimistic...

Time to make a trail rig.

Sorry man- but there is a silver lining: buy it back and make a trail rig.

Rear bumper: $2500
Front bumper: $1500
Suspension: $1500

Takes shine of your mall crawler, but sure provides a great platform for a capable trail rig.

I have had 2 taken out so far. My experiance is that once you get that rear panel involved you are looking at it being totaled.
Front bumper and tailgate you might have been ok but that full rear panel is one big piece and takes alto of paint.

If you are going to replace it with another find some cheap tires and rims and grab grab the ones you have. Floor mats if they are in good shape, stereo if you replaced that. Its the little things on your next ride that will nickel and dime you.

My thinking (philosophy) Exactly..

Purchase it back from the insurance, fix it so is safe and then spend the rest of the money you get into the best possible improvements (Maybe even schooling and fabrication equipments i you feel like)..

Pristine shiny shoes are boring, worn out boots are way more comfy and one more scratch if makes absolutely no difference in the way they perform..

Damn, looks just like mine. I agree it's probably totaled so I'd start preparing for negotiations with the insurance company.

On a positive note, there's an opportunity to find an even better example. Good luck with everything.

Thats why I love this forum, you're all so good at the silver lining.

Nobody got hurt - check.

How can we turn what's left into a winning situation.

Welcome to ih8mud, I hope you can keep her and build a bad ass memory maker!

That is about the saddest thread I can think of , besides the kid who drilled holes in is hood to mount JEEP lights.....:crybaby:

Anyway , that is alot of damage and I dont think I would buy it back but I would swap the tires off.

good luck and sorry to hear, start looking for another.....

That was a bad day and will get better.

I agree, d-pillar damage is costly to fix, even without paint. But if you chop the d pillar down to the floor... You could have a sweet 100 truck

@MGarland Ugh, I feel your pain. Been there in the exact same situation with my '96 Tacoma. I wish I took the check and then kept it. If you're thinking you might keep it, I have a rear bumper from a black 2003 that should match that you can have. Let me know if I can help.

That really really sucks. How is your neck? I'm thinking your car is totaled and with the medical bills, cause I know your seeing a MD. Say $17k for your car and $5k in medical bills x's 3, you should walk away with about $60k without a lawyer and over$100k with one. Because, you need to come out of this "whole" not screwed over by losing money on your LC, or 5 years from now having pain in your neck and not being able to do the things in life that you enjoy. This happened to my wife. Good luck.

Sucks. Probably some idiot texting while driving. If you decide to sell it let me know, I am an auto body pro so I would be interested. Good thing is there are more out there if you look.
