Claudia - Axles were in excellent shape, coarse spline early axles. You can see the difference on the splines in the last one with one of my fine spline extras. There yours.

but the coarse splines ended in the rear with the '68 model year

I need newer

Howdy! Several years ago I snapped a rear axle shaft, very similar to Kavik, but short side. Luckily, I was in town, and I had a replacement at home. But, when I came across a complete rear axle for cheap I snagged it. Good news is it is from a mid 70's Piggy, so it should be fins spline with 4.11's in it. It has had the diff rebuilt. It has spring pads for both over and under mounts. It is complete drum to drum. Bad news is I have never pulled the drums to check out the brakes, but they do turn freely. I have not opened up the diff to look at it, but it has minimum freeplay, and it rolls smoothly, indicating it has lube in it. It also has a round DS flange on it, but I don't know why. I should look it over one of these days. Although a bit cumbersome for transport, it is the ultimate trail repair for a busted diff, as it just requires 4 ubolts and a brake line. I also have a spare 77 FJ40 axle housing and a longside axle shaft.

And, for those of you who really know me, YES! I am working on incorporating that whole drum to drum setup in my front bumper, but I don't quite have it all figured out yet!! John
