I need to replace the rear floor quarter panels and wheel wells on my fj40. I was wondering what order I should do this is to make it easier on myself, and where I should brace the body to keep it square. btw I will not be buying any prebuilt panels I will be making them. I have a welder and a plasma cutter for this work.

anyone????

Purchase a clean tub?

Have done a lot of resurection over the years, and if you can find a clean tub for under 1K, you will be time and money ahead...

Just my kanadian .02 tho...

Guys... Dont have the cash to buy a new tub... But do have the metalwork experience and can get great prices on sheet steel... Just mainly wondering what order is the best to do it in. floors then wheel wells then quarter panels. or qp's then wheel wells then floors. you get the idea. Just looking for someone who has done this to give some tips.

Start with

Weld a brace across the tub from right to left, where the rear doors go, maintaining your spacing for door alignment. If you're only doing inner fenders and quarters, and not the rear floor, take out the inners next. Quarter panels last. Install in reverse order, I'm sure you're doing your rear channel as well, you'll need to remove it first and reinstall first. Height regarding the body isn't really an issue, since it's fixed by the rear tub mounts. You may need to replace/refab these. There's some pretty good install pix on ccot's site.

I am doing the same thing to mine, but I have to jig it up after it has all been taken off
So it is a slow painstaking process to get it all squared up. Here are a couple links, and you could do a search here and at pirate and would prob find some good tips. I fabbed a new rear sil piece and will be making all the cross supports as well. Haven't got to the panel install point yet so can't tell ya the order I will do it at for sure. I'm thinking quarter panels then wheel wells then floors. I will post up some pics prob tonight. Good luck.

Dont know what to say about the floor but as far as the exterior goes I personally rub mine off on the rocks and trees :D then molly bolt on diamond plate (aluminum ,ofcourse)

Thanks for the advice and links guys... So i guess im gonna brace it all up then cut out the floor then measure it to fit then cut out the wheel wells then measure and fab them. Then cut off the qp's then weld the new quaters on then maybe the floor then the wheel wells or wheel wells then floor not sure on that. Keep ya posted. Going to look at the house I am looking at buying tommorrow and the possible new 2 car garage home for the cruiser.

I would do the floor and wheel wells first. if you have a brake (I sure wish I did) life will be much more fun.

Well i did it my girlfriend and I put a bid on the house so maybe soon I will be tearing the cruiser apart. I attached a pic...
