Have the typical hatch and driver side rear rocker minor body rust on my 97. The frame is solid. Willing to invest some money into getting it correctly fixed. Any body shop recommendations in Mid-Atlantic/Southeast? Located in Virginia but willing to travel for the right shop. Have contacted Land Cruiser Heaven in Maryland and Axiom Restorations in VA Beach, so far LCH has estimated $3150 for tailgate alone and $9k for rocker repairs based on another truck. That seems very high to me. Anyway here are some pics, curious if anyone that went down this route has some insight on how much to budget for repairs along with shop reccomendations.

What are they planning to do for that 12k+? New metal, then full repaint, etc.? Those are indeed very high prices for localized repairs without full respray or without the truck needing more work than is obvious from the photos. You need specifics about what will be done and a good sense of what you'll end up with before you can really compare prices accurately I think.

Those prices are insane! The tailgate you could do yourself over a weekend. Any other reputable body shop should give you a better quote on the rocker panel rust; they don't even look that bad to me.

In the short term, just spray some fluid film on it to keep the rust from getting worse. I agree with the others that those prices are ridiculously high considering how minimal the rust is.

Yep, have treated the underside with woolwax for the time being. Would like to take care of the rot before it progresses further, will continue to shop around and post estimates. Ideally get the truck in a shop after turkey season here.

Most body shops wont touch rust, you will need to find a specialist. Doing it right is a time consuming process, but those LCH quotes are pretty otherworldly.

Hi, A better price break down would be helpful. But as we all know what little you see on the outside will be worse when you dig into it. Mike

I've had similar issues with rust repair, luckily mine was easily cut out in the rear quaterpanel.

I've treated the rust free metal with por15 and will have a buddy weld in a patch from eastwood.

I've had a hard time finding a shop to help me, and reverted to learning and doing myself

Michael Hanson is right, as soon as i started sanding i realized just how bad everything was, it was surprising
