Looking at a FJ80. The body and interior are fairly clean but there is some rust on the undercarriage ( it appears to be surface but I’m not an expert). Based on the pictures, curious if there would be any concerns with this and/or what could be done to treat this? For instance, not sure if you’d try and grind the rust off or just treat it with something?

As a Salt Belt Survivor...What rust? I don't see any fasteners there that need to be converted to liquid to be removed.
For the most part, it's just surface corrosion. Brush off the loose stuff, hit with a converter and brush over it with Impliment Paint or POR15 or something equivilant.
The trans cross-member and it's bolts look a little crusty. I'd spray the inside of the frame down with can of PB Blaster a week before attempting to pull them.
It needs to be worked over and preserved, but there is nothing there that would be a major cause for consern.

Also, you're looking at an FZJ80, not an FJ80.

You can do spot media blasting, then coat with epoxy primers and topcoat.

You definitely will need to do Fluid Film at some point.

That would be to much rust for west Coasters like me
First post second picture the upper control arm and mount are pretty crusty.

What rust? If that were an East Coast car it would be considered rust free.

If it is a low mile car I might consider doing something to the rust as mentioned above, if it is above 200,000 miles, just enjoy it.

You see how they took the running board off hahaha? Bet those things were seized on pretty good so they cut the brackets instead of unbolting them.

Leave it for the East coasters
There’s plenty of rust free examples out there !
