does your exhaust blow into the bumper? I like the pull hook there.....under the bumper. That rear quarter looks challenging too. GLWT!

Yeah, the silly exhaust guys ran the exhaust right into the bumper...then the end cap melted off one day!! Actually, I just worked on it today and welded a 90° elbow on it and ran it out.

Not sure what the game plan is on the rear quarter, but the doors are almost done!! I have the pull hooks on both sides.

That is one big cavity in the rear...... I am also waiting to see how you attack this too. GLWT!
Glad to see you fixed the  in your pipe!!!

Get some wire mesh from Home Depot or other hardware store and use it to make a support for the fiberglass on the rear quarter. It can be shaped pretty easy and with a little rigging works really good to be able to get the fiberglass to shape like the body originally was. I know you saw my thread when I re-did the rear quarter but I forgot to take pictures of the mesh I did.

Doors are looking great!

Here is the current status of my doors. I will soon get the blue paint out. I have a little bit more sanding to do on the front.

Here's what my silly exhaust looks like...haha!

I better hope no one threads on a 2" pipe cap!!!

That will help reduce the amount of fumes entering the truck via the gaping hole right beside it!!

I haven't touched this since Wednesday. The rain is back and it looks like I will have to go into work over the weekend...grrr.

I did find an in-expensive mig welder on c-list, but it's the flux-core only version...not sure if it will do the job properly.

Dude.......
Looking Great!!!!!
I love the threaded pipe extention...
I would cut the rockers and weld up some slidders with that new Mig of yours.
Flux core will work fine!!!! its not as pretty as dual sheild, but will do the job just fine.

Way to go wengejor!!!

MIG

Yo Alaska,

Look what came home with me today. The other one sold before I could get to it.

Anyway, I found an even better deal on c-list...150bux for this:

I did have to drive out to the sticks to get it, but it was a good deal....Fire Power 120 model.

Rockers here I come!!

$&@* an A!!!!
Now were talkin!!!!
Look out :hhmm:cause your gunna go crazy now!!!!
Nice find sir,.....nice find.

I'm not sure what is in the bottle now, but I was messing around tonight and was making some nice weld beads. I need to pick up some material now and get going on this rocker panel project.

I did the exhaust with the lincoln buzz box arc welder and it was a biatch to not bust through the pipe with that while upside down...just way overkill.

It will look fantastic with the sliders. not to mention the wheeling freedom of not smashing your rocker panels.
Score on the welder!!

:hhmm: Think this thread has inspired me to finally get off my ass and take the grinder to my truck. Mine doesn't appear to be this bad (I hope), and I'm planning to fiberglass over (maybe with strips of sheet metal riveted in to give support for the bigger holes). Then the truck will be bedlined, well at least the bottom half. The hatch is toast, but I have a replacement just about ready to put on.

Okay, got mine painted up last week, heres the results. It's about a 40' looker right now, needs some touching up when I get a chance, but I'm glad to have some solid paint on it before the salt hits the road. ;)

I used Duplicolor that I picked up from a surplus shop (dented cans) brushed on to get good coverage, then "texturized" with a Schutz gun. Looks good and hides a lot of imperfections underneath. Was a bit on the cool side when I did everything, and was time constrained.. ended up doing the bedliner before the paint had had enough time to really cure, so masking left some marks

This thread, along with prior 60 rust experience caused me to have a pretty bad nightmare last night. The whole truck had cancer. When I was done poking and prying, there was just a pile of parts. It woke me up and I was upset. I actually went outside (and it was in the low 40s) and gave my truck a quick look see to be sure...

True story- a friend of mine dragged home a FJ40 and once we got it on the lift and poked all that rust out, all that was left was basically the firewall. Frame, floor- everything was flakes. It was just the paint holding most of it together.

Wow, rockdoc, Looks pretty damn good! I like the two tone look.
