I've had way too much experience on my Pig.
MIG, 16 ga sheet, 0.023 wire, get your power and feed settings right and it really isn't that hard - especially if I can do it.
The weather mostly cooperated this last weekend, so I gave it one more round of grinding and a final layer of fiberglass cloth. If next weekend's weather cooperates, too, then I'll give it one final grinding and bondo it.
I also picked up a 60 grit flap disk for my 4 1/2 angle grinder, and now have a new best friend. I've tried all sorts of grinding and sanding pads and disks, but this combination is by far the best. Cuts out the high spots like a hot knife through butter, but is somehow easier to work the details and compound curves than any of the slower tools ever were. Had I gotten one of these disks before trying any of the others, I probably would have saved myself $25 in sanders and pads that I now consider worthless and a couple hours using them instead of this combo.
GLTHFJ60, 4" isn't too much to do w/o an internal structure, but if you can get to the inside, you might want to press some wire screen into place to give you something to work against. The bit of support it gives you should make the job easier. Also, when you're doing the bottom edge of the quarter panel, where it hangs upside down, you'll curse a lot. Gravity isn't your friend, especially if you've got a big piece of soggy mat that keeps on dripping and sliding off of the panel. (Again, ask me how I know.
)

That is a perfect recipe! (023 wire!)
I used 16 guage on my roof with 030 wire and it was a bit hot n heavy even at the lowest setting on my mig.
The rig is looking good. Man you can work with that glass. i had a disaster with that stuff the last time I tried using it.

Thanks man. I really like the glass because it's so easy to shape with the grinder and sander. I think I need to take a little more of it off of the rear pass door bottom.
Yeah, the race was real fast. There were three hills in the beginning and my average was just over 19mph after the hills. I hooked up with a fast group pushing 28-30 on the flats for the rest of the day and finished with a 22.2 average for the day. I may be doing a century ride (100mi) this weekend pending weather.
I knocked the gunk off of the doors on the other side then did the Naval Jelly wash but then had to put a coat of primer. I'm super busy at work now and haven't had much time to get going on it. I'll get some more pics of it soon!!

I really need to get back to this.
I'm still recovering from yesterday's ride. I was on the bike for more than 7 hours...it was brutal. The wind was relentless and there were like 6 or 7 major hills to get over...it was the most difficult long ride that I've done so far.

Ok Alaska,
Here's the status of the drivers side. I think I need to take the doors off on this side to do it properly. The rain has subsided and the sun is trying to come out now, so perhaps I'll get something done today.

Progress
Made some good progress today. Man the glassing is just really slow. I'm almost ready for bondo. I may add another layer or two on the front door.

I've heard naval jelly is good stuff - haven't used it though.

Yup, you can pick it up at lowes...it's kinda pink jelly stuff with phosphoric acid. You just put it on with a rag, scrub the rust with with a wire brush. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wash it off with soapy water. I like to then use acetone to clean it up before applying primer.

That is good stuff. I used the LOCKTITE Rust Nutreulizer. it comes in a spray can making it easy to hit the deep areas.
WOW......Wengejor!!!! You went right to town on this yesterday. I cant wait to see this sucker all buttoned up!! It feels so good when the body is all there.

Thanks man,
I added a few more layers of fiberglass to the front door and smoothed it out with the sander...I could almost get away with not using bondo, but there are a few air bubbles that make little holes that I need to fill in.
I'm now waiting for the bondo to cure...was thinking about grind down that rear quarter panel...not sure what I will get into with that.
