Rust in rear end (1 Viewer)

So the 70' FJ I'm doing a disc brake swap has lots of problems I pulled the rear cover and axles out only to find the ring gear pitted with rust and the outer bearing surfaces on the axle also pitted. Since I'm a FJ noob can someone point me to a good vendor for a complete third member and a pair of rear axles? On a bright side the Downey rear disc brake kit that was bought for this FJ is top notch!!

Bad part is the owner paid big $$ for a "restored" FJ. The owner has lots of $$$ so he'll want new parts, I'd build the third myself but don't have the time to do it right now.

I second the above. That does not look bad at all.

If you order the 1970 rear wheel bearing, it will come with the outer bearing that is pressed into the axlehousing, as well as the inner race that is pressed down onto the axleshaft. There is no need to replace the whole shaft.

The ring gear is fine as-is. There two other reasons to upgrade to a fresh diff.
One, the 1970 diff has a weak coarse spline pinion. New R&P sets have the bigger, stronger fine spline pinion shaft.
Two, the carrier bearings and pinion bearings may be rusted like the R&P. If so, they will get noisy sooner or later.

Thanks, the pic's don't look as bad as the problem really is. I've been a Ford tech for over 20 years and I wouldn't run the gears/bearings on my rig, so I'm not going to let it go on a rig I'm working on for somebody else. So I still just need to know a good vendor for axles and a rebuilt third member

If you want new chromoly axles go here. If you want used look at the classifieds on this site.
