Hello, I am looking two LX470.

First option - it's a 1999. Pics attached. Would you consider it surface rust or should I walk away? The vehicle is otherwise very well maintained, including timing belt done.

Second option.... I am going to post below so the pics don't mix up.

Thanks for your help!

Here is the Second option. This one is year 2000. Pics attached below. This one is also well maintained.

Is this acceptable level of rust?

Once again, these are two separate vehicles... thanks again in advance for advice!

No and no. The most important thing in buying these trucks is that there is zero to very little rust as everything else can be fixed. There are a couple very prone areas on these vehicles and they’re not even what you showed so they are likely very very very crusty.. take your time and find some thing that is not too rusty because if you’d like the platform, you’re just going to wind up buying a second one to make up for the error in buying the first one, ask me how I know:)

Maintenance and rust, nothing else much matters.

100% no for either one. There are plenty of clean 100's for sale, don't be afraid to travel for the right one.

Don't walk, run away from both. Every time you try to take something off for maintenance the bolts will break. And as said before me, the rust that's not showing will stun you when you find it. The muffler has been replaced so it was really bad. And that tube in the first pic looks like it is new too so someone was fixing things as they break.
Don't be discouraged, we're only trying to help save you some heartache. Keep looking, you'll be glad you did.

Where are you located? That’s pretty much how any Toyota suv looks here in IL/WI after 5+ winters.

imo it's too much, especially in the key joint areas. You can't really patch those up critical joints, as there's so much stress on those areas.

I'd pass on both and I live in Maine where rust in inevitable. What's your location and budget?

For the right cheap price I would go for the second. Definitely not the first one. Speaking from someone who has similar rust to the second one I have a ton of extra hours dealing w broken bolts, rethreading holes. Not fun. Get really good with a torch haha

You mean to say that is how any vehicle not treated with fluid film or the like would look. It does not mean that it’s ok that it looks like that because untreated neglected salt belt trucks look like that;) That even happens in Maryland with all of the salt and sticky brine when it “might” precipitate.

Correct. 99% of the population does not undercoat their cars where I live and 99.999999% has no idea what Fluid Film is, even automotive shops.

bro i would not be able to live with myself if i knew my LC had that much rust sitting in my driveway lol buy a PT cruiser before you buy either of those

alright maybe not a PT cruiser but you know what im saying

I will echo what everyone has said here and tell you to keep looking.

Don’t look local… look for no rust and hop a one-way ticket

This is a 200 series undercarriage. Priced very low but there’s rust and AHC not working.

I guess one could replace the hydraulic suspension to a conventional suspension on these 200s?

Is this rust “run away from it” territory?

That rust doesnt look terrible in my opinion, mostly surface by the looks of it. I would have it sand blasted and coated
