Tremendous downpour hit I-25 on the way down here this afternoon, about 20 miles N of Elephant Butte. Most cars and trucks had to pull over and stop, because you could hardly see the road. Didn't last long.

We had several storm cells move over this afternoon. No rain though.

See everybody in the morning

10-4. See ya at Pat's around 9:00.

That was a great run through the canyon today, thank you to everyone who helped put it together.

Afterwards Pappy and I headed North, with me following, to reach I-25 via Magdalena. When we reached Socorro and were about to turn onto the freeway Pappy very fortunately stopped in a McDonalds car park, where it instantly became clear my car had a problem:

Pappy pumped it back up, only to reveal a deep cut in the center of the tread:

This must have happened in just the last mile or so, because it was deflating quickly and yet the rim had not shredded the tire.

Huge thanks to Pappy who in the interest of keeping us moving stepped in and had the spare mounted within minutes!

Hey, it was nice to meet you guys. I don't think I realized the 4runner was SoA til after, should have gotten a better look at it and how the inside was set up. Baja/AK/South America are on the 'when I get time' list.

Attached is my work in progress on the road today, probably the next thing I need to do is put an A/C in.

You're welcome. But why did Toyota stick a different size lugnut on the 100's? Inquiring minds want to know.

That ain't a CAR!!! It's a Hundy or a rig or a vehicle but NOT a car, LOL [emoji2].Ive dumped many $$$$ at Discount Tires over the years and they'll price match.

Whoops - did not intend to set off a tire war! I like the Duratracs partly because they are snow-rated. I got tired of having to swap road vs snow tires.

Regarding terminology, I think it's fair to say my vehicle was a "car" when I bought it. Totally stock, never off road and had been driven primarily by the seller's wife and daughter. The most adventurous use it had seen was ski trips. It's a bit more of a "rig" now, though I'm not done yet. :)

Breaking news!!!!

The County had to reverse their ruling and the canyon will remain open for the foreseeable future.

Copy/paste from The Madjeepist
The county commission recended their vote to close the canyon. It is OPEN for travel! Keep in mind that all the previous rules still apply.-- The 'road' only, is open, property to either side is still off limits. -- Be respectful of the area, the makeshift ditch system is important the the farms and ranches in the area. --pack your trash out, etc..., etc.. LEGALLY, quads and dirtbikes aren't allowed because it is a legal county road just like any other. its never been inforced, but be aware. And lastly, if you see some A-hole ripping it up and ruining it for everyone else. REPORT IT, it just might make the difference in keeping our lands OPEN.

Good meeting folks. We are talking about Ford engines in the Land cruisers and that's not common. Well I'm getting gas at Wallaotowa and ran into Jay with a 60 with a Ford 347 stroker engine!! Crud, my pic is too large to upload.
