William.

Thanks for the brainstorming...that actually looks pretty good.. I want to use the particular rack that is on top of the tent as it keeps the whole bike together...(no wheels off)....

The more I think about this the more I want it to swing away to the passenger side as it could pool a double duty and serve as the mast for the canopy.....

By the way that is one sweet rig yah got there......

Drew, I would do that but then it would mean making wholes on the cover for the tent...

Thanks for the input guys.. I try to weld something up in the next two weeks..
but if I use Aluminum I may have to pay for someone to do it... as dont have / dont know about welding aluminum...

The fuel can rack came out nice.

I still think the simplest solution for hauling 5 bikes is going to be a hitch type rack. Is your water tank already mounted? Maybe you can move it up over the axle to balance the load.

David, unfortunately the poly water tank was made so that it contours the cross member on the trailer frame.
I thought of moving it more to the center but I can't. It also has a skid plate to protect it from any road debri... really well thought-out but with no option for a rear hitch...

Laters,

Thanks, I'm digging your trailer....and the color almost matches my rig.

I hear you, I'm a fork mount guy. A little bit lower profile and I usually have room for a couple of wheels....and if I didn't I would add a wheel mount between them. I like the idea of hitch mounts, but then I see how much crap sprays up and collects on the back of my rig when it's raining and I change my mind.

I'm looking forward to see what you come up with.

William

It should match the color of your rig... I know cause I got the same color on mine....
I have a sportworks hitch rack for 4-5 bikes it is great but yah right.. it can turn your bikes into dust collectors..
I think having them on top of the trailer will keep them fairly out of the way and clean for the long haul...

Will post something when I get to it...

Looks good, Manu. Now go camping!

Hi yah Mike..

Im going..Im going..!!

Here are some pics of the rack I fabbed up...
Its not the best looking..I just hope it holds up for what its intented use will be for ....

I made it as simple as possible but now that is finish as always, in hindsight ( oh I should of done it this way) type of mentality comes up...

So, about $40 worth of metal $55 worth of hardware at Mcmaster-carr and $80 of PC and I got me a rack that swings out of the way... and think it weights around 50 to 60 @ and I can hold up to to 5 bikes on top...

I bought a 6' piano hinge but ended up cutting it up and using only 1/3 of it.. welded to the frame and bolted to one side and used some pins on the other side to keep it simple..

Got two gas shoxs at 150@ each probably overkill but when you are holding a piece of metal at a 90 angle I rather be over kill... I used nutserts 5/16 to hold the shoxs in place... the strap is to help pull down the rack back to place...

Finally took her out and did some camping with it.... We spend the weekend around Zion NP doing some canyons and riding at Gooseberry Mesa...!!
Weather was great and the rack help up well (no the welds did not come undone !!! ) despite all the shaking and side to side movement...

I had 5 bikes on top and I think I could transport two more but, I would be concerned about the weight

Here are some pics...

WOW..awesome view on the bottom pic! Rack was a nice design. If a bike weighs 30lbs....that's like another 150lbs. on top..if think that's pretty impressive..good job.

bit chin' truck and bit chin' trailer..... nice work! Had a great time in Zion! Can't wait for next month! ;p:p;p:p

Selene
