Hey Guys,

I have a 1947 Bantam civilian version and I am looking to put an RTT on top. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what type of rack system I should use? I don't see too many easy ways to hook a rack on this. Anyone done this here?

Thanks,

Chris

If your T3-C Bantam civilian trailer still has the pockets on the sides for the stake that would be a good place to attach a rack. That is unless you making a weather tight top for the box. In that case your going to have to mount it outside the box.

No top yet, so I could use the pockets. How would the feet of the rack attach?

Do you weld? That would be the easiest way. Fab up your own design. If you don't weld you could drill and bolt a removable frame. I don't think any after market rack would work without some sort of modification. Time to get creative...

Post a pic of your Bantam so we can help with the rough design.

My Thule roof rack mounts to the rails of my M100. Not sure what a RTT weighs but I would think 4 cross bars would support it and still give access to the box. Good luck.

do you have the part # for the thule rack ? thats a nice set up for a tent and still have access inside. thanks.

No part # but they are the basic Yakima racks, not Thule (sorry), made for rain gutters. I wouldn't even bother with the locks. I've even seen a metal crossbar rack on older vehicles also made for raingutters. Not sure the make but anything would work.

That works out great. The RTT weighs in at about 120. I would put some kind of support under the main part of the foot (the part that actually sits in the gutter) otherwise the weight is all on the weaker locking mechanism. Just one mans opinion.

You are correct sir. Maybe a 1" x 1" L bracket bolted to the inside of the box to support the roof racks. I've never put much weight in the rack, just sleeping bags, tents, bags etc. but with the Durabak bedliner texture I've never had any movement.

Thanks pal. You must have been standing on your head for that second one. Pretty simple to make. 1/2" L stock with small tabs welded on then bolted to the topper. Easy on easy off.

Anytime! Thats what I'm here for! I will vouch for how solid Photogod's rack mounts are. 360lbs+ of weight in the tent no issues and the brackets mount quickly and the gutter feet mount quickly as well.
