Ok, obviously this is my first time draining what appears to be an original radiator.....removed the brass drain plug at the end of the drain tube sticking out of the bottom, thinking the coolant would come gushing out....nada.

Does it screw in to release a valve, or is mine just super clogged up? Getting ready to drop at local radiator shop to see if it is worth fixing up or if I should buy a new.

Thanks

Carefully push a solid wire up there and see if you can get it to drain.

Not uncommon.

thanks!

I just tried the wire, .... then moderately tried a nail and then a small screwdriver. Not pounding either one, just by hand trying to force it up there....nada.

"Gently" tapping with a mallet next????????

X3, had to use long skinny flathead screwdriver to open it up, lots of silt and unknown stuffage came out. I will say the stock fj40 radiator has kept my old 307 and the new 6.0 sbc cool. I have been very pleased with the stock radiator.

There's a new product opportunity for the FJ40 market - Cruiser Catheters! Sorry, I couldn't resist.

GOT it !!!

Got it finally! Thanks guys.

Used a little more force (coaxed gently with rubber mallet) and broke thru the crud plug.

Now off to the radiator shop.
