Hello Brain Trust.

I tried to determine the answer to my question using search in multiple forums before coming here.

I am working on the steering on my FJ55. The Cruiser Outfitters website lists the passenger side relay rod end as left hand thread, however, when I removed the relay rod, the LHT rod end was on the drivers side, at the center arm.

It is not outside the realm of reason that o mixed them up when I replaced them 20 years ago, but I’d rather not make the same mistake twice; if it was done incorrectly the first time.

There does seem to be a difference in taper diameter -albeit, very small - but the pitch seems the same from one end to the other.

So my question is, which side of the vehicle, on a left hand drive rig, does the left hand thread relay rod end go?

If anyone here can enlighten me, I’d be grateful.

Cheers!

The passenger side is the LH thread.
The rod end has the longer stud to attach to the Tie-rod. If you use a different rod end you won't be able to put the cotter in in there. I have a truck like that here right now (we are fixing it of course)

Awesome Matt!

Thank you!

That is what I thought, but I confused myself with my rookie mistake back in 04.

Cheers!
