Bump in response to a question on the 3FE list...

Help your old man with his failing memory. You were able to bolt in your (my old) 4:11 third into the full floater. Right?

Everything else from there back was off the new axle, right? Did it have sway bar mounts?

I must've missed something, your question seemed logical to me.
As has been said, they are Toyota cable actuated lockers from an HJ61. The front bolted into the 60 series housing with a little bit a clearancing and two new studs, but the back requires a full floating axle (from the same truck) The system used to control the cables is overcomplicated and over engineered but they engage/disengage smoothly, on command and with a direct mechanical connection.

(and if you lock just the rear you can do doughnuts that would put a ricer to shame [in the snow anyway])

I could have bolted the 62, 4.11 third to the full floater, but I needed to use the locked 3rd, all the locker stuff is on the third, nothing other than an extra notch is in the housing itself. The locked 3rds unfortunately had 3.7s so I had to pull the ring and pinion from the 62 and swap them in there.
The FF did not have sway bar mounts, had to cut them off the 60 axle and weld them on the new one.
And the axle was not the luxury US spec with the rubber isolators, so the centering pin was small and short, and the perches had the tight U-bolt pattern closer to the springs.

Kevin - Congrats on a sweet rig - very inspiring to those of us who are just getting started with setting up their first 60 series; I just re-read your road trip article in Toyota Trails. It looks like you've done a ton of work (engine swap, lockers/gears(?) ) since that trip. Anyway, I thought it was great how much time you put into your write-up for ROTW, your storage innovations have got my gears turning, that's for sure. Nice cruiser pics on your website also...

Hi guys,
If it helps I found a link to a similar weatherstipping through JC Whitney. I would bet it is also the same or a similar manufacturer. I remember seeing this in the actual JC Whitney catalog and they looked good. #9 looks the best to me/most similar to what Kevin was using. I have used a similar wheather stripping I pulled off a Saab 900 once but it was limited quanities...

I like my 62 the the way it is, but that makes me want to get another 60 or 62 just so I can go nuts on it and mimic your build (with a 4BT, though)

I just showed several pics of your rig to my wife and daughter. Daughter loved it, wife felt it would be fine for me to convert mine to a similar set up if that was where I planned to live! otherwise, forget it!
Oh well, this is one great rig, congrats on a job very well done.

question on the over head net, did you have to go all the way through the roof with the hardware? is there enough material to do it inside?

Nope, nothing through the roof, there are a bunch of internal braces to fasten into, nut-serts work great for that, just drill a hole and compress an insert in there.
If you get in the right places you can drill and tap as well, as long as it is light duty.
I have a bunch that were drilled and tapped before I had the nut-sert tool and they are still holding just fine.

Antenna is mounted through the stock location with a custom mount. The antenna is wired through a Matchmaker CB / FM splitter, and that as well as the CB are mounted behind the dash. The CB is a remote unit, with all the controls in the microphone.

His newest product is the antenna mount, and I have the first production model. I'll be writing something up for it tonight.

We are getting ready for trip out to OR and WA for some exploring with the truck, so I've been venting my excitement by tinkering with the truck, need to update a few things in this thread now as well.
So I will have an update here with any new stuff before I hit the road in 2 weeks.

Wow, looks good. I'll wait to e- ya, til ya unveil the next widget, in case I 'need' it too. Thinking I might splurge on the rear hatch weatherstripping as well.

Needless to say, i'm inspired... been following this thread, love your ideas.
Going to rig the sleeping pretty much the same as yours, as i love all the storage possibilities.
And i cant wait to get the tail gate lid from you!
Is there any chance of getting the latches from you beforehand, 4-6 of them?
Gonna fab up the storage drawers and the rear quarter storage, so a few sets of those nice latches would be great!
what did you use on the inside of your storage rooms?
