We are getting ready for trip out to OR and WA for some exploring with the truck, so I've been venting my excitement by tinkering with the truck, need to update a few things in this thread now as well.

Great to hear you coming out to OR. Are you hitting the Mcgrew trail at the end of the month? It'd be fun to hit a trail depending on your schedule.

I wont be doing the Mcgrew, too much of a push for me to make that comfortably, would rather take my time getting across the state.
A bunch of the folks I am meeting up with after will be running it though.

I plan to tool around southern OR for most of a week with the 3FE folks, then pick the wife up in Boise and mosey back across the state to the north and into WA.
Not much of a "schedule" per-se. :p

Well, should be hitting the road on Monday morning, it's been great to have an excuse to fiddle with the truck a bit, got a few things taken care of that have been on my mind for a long time, time for a bit of an update to the ol' ROTW thread.

First up, some bin mods, got some quick release hold downs on the bins, no more crawling under the truck to take out those 4 bolts (yeah I have problems).

Found these bungee like "springs" in mcmaster, they are working great for holding the fridge in place, and make it a snap to remove.

Also got tired of cleaning that damn ground on the lift gate, just put in one of the long neck map lights, really great since you can pull it down and point it wherever you need, and it's right over the fridge for those midnight snacks.

FINALLY made a boot for the hand brake and the lockers, need to make another one a bit cleaner, but this will work for now.

Trying out a new floor, cut this out of a anti-fatigue matt (also from mcmaster), looks nice but I don't think it'll last.
In the floor pic you can also see a new toggle switch on the dash, made the passenger window into a power one, the dog appreciates it.

And dropped in a proper Sur-Flow pump for the hot water, the Helton heat exchanger is great, but all the other parts are crap.

And another toggle switch on the door (that one is for the wife, not the dog), also worked on the sound a bit and put 62 rear speakers in the front door, with careful placement they work out quite nice.

Still have the push button radio in the dash, but put a new unit in the glove box with a USB input.
Most new radios seem to come with a little IR remote, obviously wont do much good if the radio is behind the glove box door, experimented with some auxiliary wired remotes, but I didn't like any of them, all too big and flashy. Then I got "smart", disassembled the little remote that comes with the radio, unsoldered the emitter and soldered a wire in its place with the emitter on the end of it, basically turned it into a wired remote and mounted the emitter in front of the radio in the glove box. The remote is velcrowed under the steering column, out of sight and within easy reach. I don't have to see any of that modern crap, but I get modern sound.

So I made that happen.
Been a bit jealous of those pickup truck campers with the caps that open on the side, camping in there is great, and then there is the gear access, in my situation I can get right into the fridge and the side panels, or anything else in the back without having to swing the tire out of the way and get both the gates open to climb in.

It started to rain while I was getting the truck packed, got to try out the "rain" position on the windows.

And despite all that work, I'm not about to head out across the country with an untested set of windows: Backups on hand. :p

Also realized a bit late that I forget to get a pic from the outside, here's one that's a bit dark, I'll get more.

Oh my, I think you are going to get some requests for those. Very nice

Super excited to be hitting the road again for a bit of a trip, explore OR and WA a bit this time, catch up with some friends and cruise around, nothing better.
I put a vacation response on my email and about to post up a notice on the home page. Another day to wrap up packing tomorrow and then start the long drive west. Maybe we'll run into some of you out in the hills!

SICK! They turned out perfect. Can you latch them from the inside by rotating the lever, or can you only do it from the outside? It doesn't look like you can lock the latches from the inside either.

Nice stereo deck install. Wonder where you got that idea from :flipoff2: When I upgrade mine to a USB input model, I'm also going to get a RF repeater thingy, that allows you to move the input sensor on the deck without tearing anything apart. I gotta get more info on it later today when I'm at Kenny's, but your method seems to work pretty well.

On this road trip, heading through KY? If so, give me a call. Lexington is wicked nice.

Those rear quarter windows are SWEET!!!
