Started fitting an old airbox. It's going to need some mods to work. The inlet hits the aircon compressor. So off with that.

For those that have never done this. This is done with the radiator drain open, the cap off,the heater on and the motor idling. I was concerned about the hose pressure pushing backwards into the heater core and stagnating the flush through the heater core. So I occasionally pinched off the hose to make sure the water would pass in the right direction. Pretty sure this didn't matter, but just to make sure.

How long did you run clr in the motor? Was there a ratio you maintain for it? I assume you completed the flush immediately after?

No ratio, I took it for a spin, maybe 20 mins up a large grade to get her heated up and to make sure the thermostat opened and allowed the coolant to circulate fully. Then I gave it an hour to cool and then I flushed it. I ran water through it for probably 15 or 20 mins.

I am happy with how it turned out, but it wasnt exactly how I planned it. The output side had to be at a 90 degree to get around the battery tray bracket. In hindsight I would have moved it to avoid that. All in all it worked out really nicely.

Hopefully later today I will get a little time to add my hose connection to the air cleaner top for the crank case ventilation. I will be plumbing up a Pro Vent 200 as an air oil separator to stop the oil from entering the turbo and gumming up my intake. This will also stop the white smoke on startup. Not a huge deal, but it is nice to have a clean running diesel. I will also need to fabricate a mount for it. I still haven't decided on a location. Has anyone else used one of these. If so, can you post up a picture of how you mounted it?

The air cleaner housing is also in need of the mount that bolts it to the lower inner fender. The previous owner must have discarded it when He decided to install that awful cone style air cleaner. So that is also on the agenda too. Once its all done, I will blast the parts and powder coat them.

Due to the location of the intake on the airbox installing a snorkel on a 1990/1991 77 Series can be an interesting endeavor. :)

That's why I moved the intake. I clocked it around almost 180 degrees so that it goes into the factory hole that was designed for the Toyota snorkel kit. My air intake was a donor from another diesel cruiser of unknown origin. It's air intake was not going to work with my A/C and moving it to the stock 77 location made no sense. It would mean a 3rd relocation if I was to ever add a snorkel. So I just went ahead and removed the factory cover that went over the snorkel hole. So now the intake rests inside the hole suited to connect directly to the snorkel. Without having a snorkel in hand, its tough to tell if it would be a direct bolt on, but at least its close now.
