Adair is even worse. Even Iowans don't claim Adair!

In fairness they only shattered when I slammed them up against something or hit them out of frustration...

Yeah I hear low overpasses can be hell as well.

I went with four surplus medical boxes. They are aluminum and the perfect size and they stack. They sell for about $99 at my work.
  • Measures 31" x 19" x 10" h.

I have seen these as well but they were too big for my use.

I really want one of these for a portable kitchen.

Dry bags would be nice for clothes, not so nice for packing up the hard stuff like kitchen gear, lights, tools, etc. A note on those Plano cases I mentioned. There are two different ones, regular and HD. The regular ones go for about $26 and feel like junk. The HD's with the lid on can be used for standing on or as camp benches which is super convenient. Sometimes I throw one down and use it to get up towards the top of the truck or for climbing up to the tailgate so I can unload the rack. They do not have seal on the lid, however, our most recent trip back up from Arkansas it was raining the entire 7 hours drive and I had no water intrusion. That's out on the highway at 70 mph in a good rain.

Paint is drying still, waiting on carage bolts with jb weld to dry so I can get the gas springs back on. I'll post up more pics when it's on the truck. Im happy with the construction. But it's heavy to get on and off. I may have to get some pulleys and rope to lift it on and off.

Once you made your first post I looked these up on eBay, holy shlitz! These things are the cats ass! Besides being out of this world expensive, they are out of this world built! I’ve had a couple “name brand” boxes up-Top, and they were GARBAGE, thin material, (my Thule cracked in a week) and made for yuppies to put on top of a Volvo Road Cruiser....... not a off road truck! You paid $150?! God, I hope you had a smoke after the screw@$/ you put on him! You could easily make 15x your $$$ off of it!

Sears X-cargo, the minivan rooftop storage solution. It ain't sexy but we put a ton of stuff in it. Camp table, two large folding chairs, two folding chairs, large tent (in the picture), and two compressed sleeping bags.

I bought some mil surplus medical boxes (some fuel cans too) and painted them to match. They bolt to the roof rack.
Yep I just had mine sand blasted and clear coated them. Now they look like the $400 ones but I only paid $400 for 4 of them.

These dry bags really have problems on the longevity side. I rarely get 40 field days from one before they tear. Duct tape will mostly repair them. North Face and Patagonia “dry” bags on the other hand work great. They are not as water proof as a dry bag, but more beefy. I just pack everything in a plastic bag and no problems. I have one I’ve been using 40+ days a year for 13 years.

It didn't look that good when I bought it. Lots of chips in the paint, sanded a little bit. Rust oleum black.

I've had the narrower pakasport on my wife's car for a long time. They are great. Need to repaint mine too. They are designed to work with two load bars, the box has recessed channels for the load bars vs a flat bottom.

I have a prinsu on my 80, and it doesn't bolt on to it. Boo. That said, I could remove a bunch of the spreaders, and it'd work fine, or buy/fab really long u bolts, but that's dumb. Doubt a this box would work with other multi load bar racks.

tips for handling it:
I bolted a handle the back of the lower half section, helps with loading the box, (having a handhold when you're standing on the bumper) as well as locking/unlocking the box. Also helps with getting the box on the roof...

along those lines, For getting it up easier (no pun intended), I use a flat webbing cam strap at the front of the box as a handle. I make a loose loop, then slide it all the way forward and close and latch the box on it. With the hard handle at the back and the web handle at the front, it gives you (and a friend) enough grab points to maneuver the bulk of that box up on the roof.

@yotaholic Do you have photos of the Packasport mounted? Specifically I want to see how many cross bars it uses on the Toyota Land Cruiser factory rack. I have a LX570 and it has a 3/4 version of the Toyota Land Cruiser rack, so I have less room.
