I have two of the HD plano cases, one from Walmart, the other from Dicks. You can actually use them as steps, they hold a significant amount of gear, and your stuff won't get wet in the rain. I think they're just under $50 now. $26.99 at Academy for the cheaper ones.

Half K, can you provide a link to where you are finding HD Pelican cases for $50 ? I'm not coming up with anything. Thanks!

Sorry buddy, I meant to say Plano, I went back and edited it. The pelicans are too much $$$

I agree. IMHO the Plano boxes are the best bang for the buck. I have 3 of them. Great product!

I like the Plano rifle cases. If someone wants to steal your sh!t they are going to steal it. No matter what you put it in.

Which is why I don’t lock my doors. If you are going to steal my sh!t don’t fawk up my truck by breaking a window too!

Cue the “you live in Mayberry” people.

Half K, no worries. I just got excited that maybe someone had found a major source for cheap Pelican cases!

The Plano cases I have do not have any kind of seal between the lid and body. Plus being as large as they are, can be a bear getting on and off the roof. Last summer I took a two week trip with the family and used Ziploc WeatherShield 60 qt storage box. They are a good size for man handling onto the roof, are weather tight (plenty of rain on the road and at camp), and inexpensive. Certainly not heavy duty; you will not be using them for a step or seat, but the only one I have broken was done by running it over.

Wooo those are quite nice actually!

I've posted this picture before. There are six of the ziploc totes, four 8 gallon water jugs, and two 5 gallon nato cans up top.

Well, since these posts also show up in google searches--cue the where-do-you-park-that-truck ppl as well...

These work really good too. They have a strong "snap" when closed, can sit on them and seem they have a good seal. The only thing about them is that the top is indented about an inch so you lose a bit of storage as you can't fill all the way to the top. Only $10/ea

I can confirm these totes are good in warm weather. In cold weather the lids shatter. I have four of them without lids...

I can confirm that it is not worth coming to Iowa for anything that I leave in my truck. I could have bars of gold and it’s not worth it.

Long ago, pre-internet, I was marooned with my parents in Adair. Ummm, yeah.

How many kids did you start out with? :)

Adair is even worse. Even Iowans don't claim Adair!

kids these days! it gets cold and then all of a sudden they just shatter!! You are probably better without them since it's cold.:rofl:
In fairness they only shattered when I slammed them up against something or hit them out of frustration...
