Removing Sun roof but keeping headliner for storage

Say what 😂

What exactly would you keep there? Registration and insurance papers?

So it looks like you have a sun roof, but when you pull the cover back, you can keep stuff up there. Maybe it's a dumb idea lol
In theory it’s a sound idea. Just have to figure out how to keep it all from falling down on you when you open the cover.

I wouldn't advise trying to cross the border with that mod...just sayin'

I’ve had a similar thought if I do roof rack, but would make a compartment that extends between the roof of the vehicle and the rack. Hopefully deep enough to mount a SBR for those trips through remote areas where you never what two or four legged things you might stumble across.

Not a bad idea at all. I did just that but I still have the oem sunroof. The problem is condensation between the glass and whatever panel you put up there.
I don't notice a problem with the stock sliding cover but maybe touching the glass makes it an issue? dunno. If you did a glass delete, maybe not an issue.

There is a surprising amount of depth. You could do a molle panel, there is plenty of space for for packs up to 6" deep (first aid kits, mesh net for glasses or whatever)
Another bonus is anything you put there acts as insulation because on those hot days, it would block a large amount of heat from radiating onto the sliding cover.

Nice that's good to hear, yeah I'd just plan on doing a glass delete most likely. I don't want any reason for the roof to leak or have issues in the future. Thanks for the insight!

Definitely don't try to cross the border with that! 😆

I made an acrylic plug.

kept the sliding cover and stuffed a hood liner into the space just for sound deadening.

I have been expermenting with seals.

Happy to make more plugs if anyone wants them. Acrylic or metal.

This seems to be a justification of a solution for something that is not a problem. I am sure someone will pop up and tell of how they have had a leaky sunroof, but personally, I have owned 8 different '80s that were daily driven and I own three currently and service dozens for customers and I have never seen a leaky sunroof. Seems like a lot of work to take a step backwards and lose some function of the rig. That sunroof is kinda nice in warm sunny days... or for emergency egress in the event of a water crossing gone bad (I rode one of my rigs down in a 20 foot deep hole once years ago after my fat ass passenger took his sweet f'ing time evacuating :( )
