BC40 i have the pictures of the rack on your 40..you send me about 4 via email.i like it,but now a have a 1976 with soft top and i have a wilderness rack 4 " high that i want to install in the next 2 weeks...i like the set up on your hard top..

Good pics. These made me think about dropping the rear supports to use the lower rear door hinge holes instead of the rear bumper. This way the rack might not be subject to the twisting stresses of being partially mounted on the body and the frame. The down side is that the rear door mount holes would give the rack a more narrow support stance than going into the corners of the bumper. What do you guys think.

FYI, I didn't do that hand drawing I posted, just thought the concept looked good. I can't remember who originally posted it but I think there is a similar thread on here that I copied it from.

I do agree that the shorter the bars ie into a bracket that is fastened into the hardtop screw points like in the pics I posted, would be better. Mounting all the way to the bumper or the frame I think you are going to run into some serious problems with flexing.

Roof racks will add alot of noise. Just put this kargomaster congo rack with safari basket on mine and it sounded like a tornado. So I had a another car roof rack from thule I had picked up at a garage sale for
almost nothing, so I took the air dam off of it and put it in front of the rack, Slienced the noise alot. Yeah I know it is a heep...

position of roof rack

I would install it total over the soft top making sure you front edge starts well back of the top to the windshield.
add a air dam on the front of the rack.

having it sit out over the windshield will give you all kind of windnoise.

because all the wind will be shooting up the windshield and thought the rack , making a noise you dont want to hear.
