ok i welded a new roof rack recently its a full length rack with 4 towers each side and expanded metal floor (Ill post pics later) anyways i had 4 roof lights before this set up on a light bar. well this time since its a full length rack i decided to weld in the light mounts to the rack. Now heres my prob i mounted everything and welded everything and now when i switch my lights on it turns my windsheild into a mirror. I must have mounted the lights a little too far forward this time. the roof must have blocked the outer light before but now it doesnt.
What do you guys think i should do? is there a windsheild visor for cruisers? i hate to go thatr route but what else is there other then cutting my rack apart?

thanks mike

For now you might try placing a piece of duct tape across the bottom of each light. This really wouldn't cut down the lights effect as before that portion would be cut off by the roof line. Back in WWII they made shades for the top of car lights. This was to help enemy planes from seeing the cars on the roads.

As far as tape choices I remember seeing 200mph tape somewhere ::)

its all about 3m brand duct tape,
available in black as well as traditional silver.
although first tiem you turn on your lights you will have permanent duct tape goo on them. on second thought check out some wide pinstriping tape. should be available form auto paiint stores. different type of adhesive and you can get it in any color.

You could always paint the bottom edge of the lens, which could then be removed later if you ever fix the rack. ;)

How about making some shade-thingys to go under the lamps?

all great ideas i think i might go shopping later and see what i come up with.

thanks again mike

Keep in mind it's not the bottom of the reflector that's sending light downward - it's the top half of the lense. Seems the best way would be to use the shade-thingys (technical term, Dan?) under the lights, but if you're in snow country this will accumulate ice/snow. What about moving them rearward as a permanent, but pain in the ass fix?

well the pain in the ass fix would require me to take off the rack. disconeccting the lights. chopping the rack then welding it back together further back. i wanted the rack as long as i have it now so me and the GF can sleep up there in the summer so i think the shade dealys are what im gonna have to do.

You can also try moving the lights farther forward - this has worked for some IIRC. Just use some cheap scrap to try different positions

Cheers, Hugh
