I searched but could not come up with a combination of words that would show any existing threads on this topic. So point me to those if they exist...

My 2013 GX can roll backwards on an incline when in Drive which causes it to release or sometimes the traction control triggers. Also does it sometimes if I am aggressive in my backing out of our inclined driveway if I toss it into drive while still rolling back. Also if creeping real slow on flat terrain it will feel like it is in neutral and then pick back up when pressing the pedal again. Not hard shifting and normal driving shifts are normal feeling. It doesn't happen a lot and isn't much of a bother, but the roll back issue impacts offroading.

Thoughts?
Anyone else with something like this?

83,000mi
Original fluid
No CEL or errors

When you say it rolls backwards and releases, what does it release?
I know mine will make some funny cluncky noise when in D and roll backwards on an incline. It's suppose to do that.
Is that lever on your console for down hill assist on?

I could have written that better...

Other cars, like my wife's will not roll backwards when in drive. My GX does and it can do it to such an extent that the transmission feels like it goes into neutral, but doesn't because some acceleration will move it forward again. It is a similar feeling when creeping slow.

DAC is not on. I think that only works in 4L anyway. This only happens in 4H.

I know ALL automatics can and will roll backwards if there's enough incline, My GX will also roll backwards on a slight incline too, but never cause me any worry. When I'm on a difficult trail, I just keep one foot on the brake and lightly use the throttle.
I believe It may be the torque converter settings that determine when to kick in.
I'm sure one of those black boxes that maps throttle and transmissions would probably cure that.

So this is a feature not a bug.... Well... Ok Lexus.

My old Subarus had a hill hold feature linked to the brake mechanism, but it worked and didn't sound/feel like it was destroying itself.

Thanks for the input

Some transmissions are programmed to do this as a gas mileage ploy. Less pump drag on the engine = greater fuel economy.

Mine does the same backing out of my driveway sometimes. Never seems to be an issue but I don't like the sound of it when it does.
