Yeap, it did happen.

Both lockers were on, tried turning hard and it went. Nothing happened to me, but La Burra got destroyed. Flipped it over again and drove back home since I was about 60 miles away, that is why I love Toyotas, you will always make it home. Anyways, called the insurance and obviously is a TL. Repairing this the way it was before will be way too expensive. If I keep it, and I am I will get a savage title, and wont be able to register and drive it on the road, I could convert it into an OffRoad only vehicle, but I like being able to drive my TLC around town and for logistical purposes I can't have an offroad vehicle.

It a 96 with lockers, actuators are 8 months old from dealer, 163k, A/C, 4'88's, Level stance suspension and snorkel. If I wanted to sell this with all the "extras" how much could I ask for? It's been crossing my mind to get another 80 and exchange all the stuff, including the axles if it doesn't come with lockers. Might get a 93 and up since I NEED a 4.5, but just having to sacrify weekends and days off to do this is keeping me away from it, and also I need to get a car since this was my daily driver. Insurance will pay 5,700 and I keep La Burra and I decide to give it away I get 6,700. I do not have the OEM suspension or original gears.

What's your opinion on this?

Glad to know that u came out fine, happened to me out in knab utah, the LC got me back to town 20 miles later.

If motor trany and running gears are fine, u could bank another 2-3k for parting out if that's worth your time :wrench: ing and shipping, not to mention misc parts laying around taking up space in the garage...

'tis but a flesh wound

why couldn't you register it after a TL if it meets basic rules (windshield etc)?

If you can't get the windshield frame straightened out, I say make a convertible out of it. Full cage, soft top...

Selling the truck wold be just stupid because actually nothing happened to it. Whatever happens to he bodywork (even if you cut it in half) will not affect driving security and on-road behavior because it has a frame. Your damage is minor so just straighten the windshield frame, put a new windshield and you're done like nothing happened. If you are a prefectionist you can kick the hell out of the quarter panel just to push it outwards and your vehicle will be as new. No need to fuss with insurance company about the rollover :-)

Glad everyones OK.

I have seen many TL over the years working in the car business for over 25+. That is not that bad the look of it is deceiving. Have a independent body shop give you a bid to repair just the windshield and A pillars you might be surprised.

I hate to see a nice rig go to parts.

I think in Fl once Fl brands it a total on the title , you cant rebuild it no matter what state your in . If you keep it and they don't get a new title all is good . Ins company takes it , its done

If I had the time and money and space I would keep it, buy another and pull parts off the old one and put it on the new one, sell anything you don't need/want from the wrecked one to help you out with a little extra cash flow. Take part of that insurance money, buy yourself a "get around town" beater in the process...a cheap honda or yota or something and then sell it after you're done wrenching.

I have my 95 as my daily driver and picked myself up another 96 cruiser that was running until I pulled the engine, trans, wheels, locking axles out of it and sold 'em. I have spare doors, windows, glass, fenders, etc...so if i end up dinging something up I don't have to go on the hunt. Nice insurance for me.

Anyhow, good luck on whatever you decide to do, glad you weren't hurt and it's a good thing this happened in a Cruiser and not something else!

Transfer the title to me here in south Dakota. I can register it and because it's over 12 years old the salvage brand will disappear. I'll then then transfer the title back to you and you re-register the truck. The title won't show anything, so unless FL does a carfax search they'll never know. I'm serious about this. If your interested pm me.

But whatever you do keep that cruiser...

Do you have the title in hand? When I totaled out my car the insurance company gave me a price they were going to give me, subtracted the buy back cost out of it, and cut me a check. They never touched my title and it was never converted to a salvage title.

I agree that I would look into the title situation, and if they ins company doesn't actually brand it, then I would just keep it and see about getting the body damage repaired. If that does not pan out, I am sure you could find a clean, straight 80 for what they are offering or less, and then swap all your parts over to the new rig and sell whatever you don't need/want.

Other than the windshield frame and maybe cowl, the rest is just cosmetic and if you can live with the scrapes then I bet the frame could be straightened for less than you would think.

The real shame of this is that I would bet money there are hundreds of vehicles on the road in FL and the rest of the Country that are death traps, but they still look ok so nobody cares, in this case you have a solid vehicle with some cosmetic damage and that makes it a TL and they would just assume crush it. Makes me sad...

Good luck

Tucker

When I rolled mine in 2006, the buy back was $3500. IMO, it was a no brainer to keep it. If you replace it, you'll want all your goodies, then just store anything that's practical and sell the rest. You'll have no problem making your money back.

The only way I would consider giving it to the ins is if you buy a replacement and move over all the best parts before settling.

Get an F-Toy, or Formula-4 tube frame from Hendrix, and make a Formula-80. :grinpimp:

agree.

Keep it and buy another. Put all your gear on the new one and part the old one out. Yes, it will take a bit of time but consider it an adventure. Think how much you will learn in process. When you are done, have the old one hauled off.

Or, fix it up to a minimum degree and use it as a trail vehicle. You can definitely get it licensed again. There isn't that much wrong with it. By doing that, you can also get a beater car to drive. I drive a 91 Lexus LS400 as a beater. I have had it all of these years and it is still a peach. Not worth much on resale which makes it a good beater and cheap enough for you to buy. The engines last forever if you take care of them.....kind of like an 80 series.
