Well i was not planning on going this extreme but I found a super great deal on a roll cage today, And I just couldn't pass it up. So I took the top off and put in the roll cage. I have not bolted it down yet. Any recommendations?

Should I just drill holes in the floor and use a thick plate on the underside and sandwich the floor in between?

Is it a good idea to tie the cage to the frame underneath? (I was not sure if that would limit flexing on the trail?)

As you can tell I have never put in a roll bar let alone a full on cage!

Thoughts?

Make sure your doors fit before you secure it.

Most recomend tie ins to the frame. Your 65 won't have any body reinforcement to secure the care to.

Mine is just bolted to the floor... But it is 1/8"+ steel :hillbilly:(thicker than the frame) so I'm not too worried. If I wheeled hard it'd also have extra bracing to the frame... One day it will.

i rolled one about 5 times and it was bolted to the floor with plates underneath and it was fine. Bolted to the frame is better

90% of people I have talked to seem to believe it is a good idea to mount a roll bbar or cage to the floor with backer plates underneath the floor that are tied to the frame. This is not a good idea. it will likley work well to protect you, but it is not a good idea. The landcruiser body is designed to be isolated from the frame, not hard mounted (otherwise body mounts would be steel not rubber. If you want to tie it to the frame, do so, but cut though the body and attach to the frame. use soft escutcheons to suround the bars and fill in hte holes in the body.

What I did was use heavy gauge floor pans and fender wells and siffened them toward the body mounts. it is stiff enough to support a roll over but still isolated from the frame.

thats my two pennies

Here are couple pics showing how the " A" and "C" pillar are tied to the frame and sliders with a rubber mount. "B" pilliar came right over the rear tires and was no room to tie in to frame.
