Todd,

That's amazingly low MPG. My hat's off to you for supporting our economy! Informationally, I get 10-11 mpg towing our 6000lb boat at 65mph. That's stock 93 truck with Michelins, and synthetic throughout as well as top notch tuning (4 degrees extra advance) and fresh air filters.

He's exaggerating a bit. Before I sold it to him, I got 10mpg in it one night eating a burger at Sonic while it was sitting still. :D

Jim

p.s. I am getting 15.5mpg in my new 130K mile 40th Ann. Bring on that $2.29 gas.

Let's wheel!

(Jim, you're buying the burgers. :))

i get like 12. i do a constant 4 mile hill run every day...and it's taking a big toll on the gas mileage. for the sake of weight i only run with a half tank at a time...but the hill climbs are just killing me.

Don't you come back down the hills too? Seems like things would even out.

TJK

Jeesh, the 87 octane just hit $2.40/gallon out here, 91 octane (the highest you can get) and it's $2.60/gallon or higher. Add the "small" aux fuel tank to bring your fill up to around 40-gallons and Todd's avatar needs some revisions...

I prefer the military "don't ask, don't tell" approach.

yes i do...but it's the uphill run that really kill me...i tutor children up there, neighborhood called Palos Verdes. it's just a constant grade uphill...the only levelling they've got is a flat wherever there is an intersection...everything is just up and up.. (the downhill is pretty fun...but...) SIGH.. it's one of those hills that a Civic would be revving hard for.. but like..for a really long time.

Ugh any one else have a mileage report with 285's?

Based on my experience, with 285s and no blower, you'll be lucky to get 14, depending upon terrain. Go to 315s and it'll be 12, or even less. Add the blower to get to Todd's 9. In Texas I could get 11 out of that truck with 315 ATs, but its a lot flatter here.

That's the odd thing, I drive very conservatively around town. Not much skinny pedal for me. Seldom get inspired and blow by a rice-rocket. :) But basically all my driving is stop and go and in town, so that's no good. And we were fully loaded (the truck that is) on the way to Texas and back. I'm not complaining, this truck is the cheese.

As I am giving birth to its half brother in the garage, I am wondering, with gas at 2.29/gal., how insane I am to take a 15.5 mpg truck and reduce that by 30% all for the sport of rock climbing. This more so than it being a high mileage engine, has me thinking no blower.

Jim

Would be sweet to have center diff gears that gave you a lower crawl ratio so you have the power for wheeling rocks/ledges/steeps. Then in high range your MPG would be unaffected for everyday usage. Appeals to my Germanic sense of efficiency and specific equipment for specific tasking.
