Hey some of the camping threads has got me thinking....I grew up in the lowcountry and did a lot of camping growing up down there....It would be cool to get a group of UC and caravan down to the lowcountry for a weekend of camping and possibly wheeling. We'd have to have everyone's vehicles in shape to make the 4 or 5 hour trip and I'd like to all go down together so no one is on the side of the road if something were to happen. And I'm thinking of a trip which involves no interstate, all backroads and highway. The point of the trip is purely to camp and not to wheel cause of the 4 hour trip down there. Although some light wheeling may be doable if we can find the right trail. But we could hook up with the lowcountry boys ......cook up some frogmore stew....camp on the beach with a bon fire and sit back and enjoy....what are y'alls thoughts?

That is something me and the other Florida UC members may be interested in. It takes me about 6 hours to get to to the SC state line at the south end of I-95. Pick a good time of the year and I would like to try to make it. May even leave the 40 in the barn and take the wife's 80.

I am busy the whole month of May (2 deliveries, GSMTR and the youngest graduates High School) and will be in the Upstate 5 days on each side of July 4th.

We used to camp on Hunting Island and I believe we were able to camp on the beach....Hopefully they haven't changed there rules.

Chuck this could be something we do with the shrimp and crab boil? But I cannot shrimp very effectively until Sept. Of course we could forgo the whole shrimp thing and buy it. Crabing would be easy and we could still pick up a bunch of oysters.

What we need to do is rent the group camp there.

Dates we have open for the club is mid-late July, late August, early Sept, Early Oct.

Can you call them and see if we could work something out.

Hunting Island group site.

Group Camping Area: A primitive group camping area is available for organized groups up to 100 people.

(An organized group is defined as “a group that holds regular meetings and has a lead officer or elected/appointed officials”.)

The area includes picnic tables, central water and nearby restroom.

Reservations are accepted. To make a primitive group camping reservation, contact the park directly.

Minimum rate is $10 -$12.50 which allows up to ten campers. The rate increases by $5-$6.50 increments for each additional five campers.

Sticking my nose in here.

I used to live in Beaufort, on Lady's Island. If you haven't been to Hunting Island before, it's gorgeous ! It's actually my favorite beach on the east coast, and I've seen most of 'em, south of Va. IH8-crowded beaches. No tourist traps, just big live oaks and palmettos, right at the sand. Good beach fishing late summer,to boot :)

I've been interested in taking a trip down there to show my wife, as long as we've been married. This might be a good excuse for me.

I'd be willing to join UC, just for this trip alone ! :D

Im up for a trip to Hunting island too, never been there before and it sounds great!

Unconfuse me. Is this now the Shrimp and Crab Boil Trip or another?

I'm up for two, still looking for sand to wheel in.

Pleasure Island, Good call

Carolina Beach in NC has some great sand wheeling and camping too, $10 per night or $40 for a year pass. Fishing and good surfing too.
Here is a google Earth view from space of the beach. Carolina Beach, NC, United States of America - Google Maps
I was there last year and had a great time.

The ramsgate trail south of Kure Beach and Fort Fisher is even bigger and longer but I am not sure about camping there. Here is the view Carolina Beach, NC, United States of America - Google Maps

I'm There, Say When ! ! ! :bounce:

I spent most of '03 licking my wounds at Carolina Beach while shuttling back to Greenville for a nasty divorce and major job battles.
North end of Carolina Beach was where I sank my BMW 535, Darth.
I'm so ready to return there with my Bonnie.
