I reached out to them directly to ask about a new version, and here's what they told me:

New feature:
1. 8.9 inches, 1920*720 resolution
2. automatic day/night mode
3. new dsp function, better audio quality
4. faster boot up speed
5. no fan noise
I think it won't be available until next month on Amazon. If you want to buy it now, you can buy directly from us. The price is $249 including shipping and it's guaranteed for 1 year.

Needless to say, I'll be canceling/returning the Gen2 from Amazon, and just ordered the Gen3 from RT directly. Looking forward to checking it out!
Weird. They told me it would be a larger screen. Out of all of those I’m not sure any of those would be a gripe of mine on my current one, but glad they are updating and making new versions. Hopefully they stick around for a while. Most of these companies disappear after a year. Doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Any chance you have some pictures of that setup? I think I'm going to go the same route.
I can get some in a few days. Basically just used an add a fuse, relay, tan wires through the firewall to the DS lock panel and mounted the fuse block up there with Velcro so I can pull it off easily when adding more things.

I think what has me nervous is bypassing any circuitry in the cigarette lighter adapter when cutting the wire and connecting directly to the Cruiser's electrical system (albeit through an auxiliary fuse box like I will also be utilizaing). I'm just acknowledging my own ignorance here for how any voltage regulation may or may not work.

How is it going? Thinking about pulling the trigger, you liking it so far?

Screw it. Pulled the trigger with the $60 off coupon.

Where'd you get a coupon from? You think it's reusable?

Actually it was just one of those "click here to clip the coupon" checkboxes on the Amazon page. It wasn't a code. I actually ended up returning the Gen2 unit to Amazon because Road Top has the Gen3 available direct from them for $249 with free shipping.

And yes I really am enjoying it so far! The resolution on the Road Top screen is a wonderful delight compared to the factory screen. I had been using the Naviplus carplay unit up until now, and this is a much smoother experience. I also really like having the carplay interface AND the factory nav, climate control, camera views, etc., all still in view. It's absolutely worth the $250 I paid for it. And I will also give their customer service team some props for being extremely responsive to all of my pre-sales questions.

Like other folks on this thread have discussed, I have my iPhone connected to the RT unit via carplay, and then my phone connected to the LC via bluetooth. No bluetooth connection between the RT and LC. This has been working great so far.

Anyone have a link to the gen 3 and or a picture on a 2008-2015 lc
Looks like they have it for sale directly on their website now: Road Top Newly upgraded Wireless Carplay Portable 8.9" Car Touchscreen - https://roadtop.com/products/wireless-carplay-portable-car-touchscreen
I ordered mine via email a couple weeks ago. They had it available but not listed online at that time. I paid $249 with free shipping, so you may be able to get it cheaper if you do reach out to them.

How's the visibility from the drivers seat? This solution is super appealing for wanting carplay, but I'm curious if it hinders the view across the hood to that front right corner

With where I have it mounted above the factory screen I lose MAYBE 1-2" of visibility over the corner of the hood, and I'm about 5' 11". I don't find that it makes any real impact at all. It actually comes with an adjustable and articulating mounting arm, so if it was a problem you could move the screen forward and position it lower, almost flush with the edge of the factory screen. That would probably negate any obstruction of your view whatsoever.

Was using the 8.8" for a while and was pretty happy with the performance. Only thing that bugged me is there was no way to get Android Auto into dark mode without fiddling with my phone. Set up a Tasker routine to automate it, but it felt a little cheap. Was very happy to see that they added a light sensor and automated that aspect of the screen. Fast forward to yesterday when I received my updated 8.9" unit. Swapping it out was as simple as unplugging the wires and disconnecting the mount and then installing the new unit.

The quality of the display is significantly better than the old one and the screen seems more response. Colors seem slightly more washed out, but that's probably down to minor differences between the panels. Two things that I noticed which bug me somewhat:

1. No built-in speaker anymore, so if you liked the convenience of a standalone unit for navigation you'll now need to connect via Bluetooth, FM, or AUX to be able to get sound out of the unit.
2. No more manufacturer logo on boot-up. Kind of a small nit but it was cool seeing the Toyota logo on both screens when I started her up.

Anyway, hope this is helpful for folks who are considering an upgrade or buying the new unit.

Can you link the new version?

The manufacturer logo option is still there. I had to email them to figure it out, but it does work. For whatever reason they don't have that menu path listed in the documentation.
Setup -> Factory -> password 2018 then you'll see the boot up logo menu

That's awesome, thanks! I will give it a shot this evening.

Edit: Yep, it worked! Thanks again!

Would you be able to share the Tasker routine for dark mode? On my Gen 2 unit, even if the screen brightness is set to dark mode, the unit displays a light mode map until I manually exit AA and reopen it again. Would love to hear how you fixed this issue

Sure thing, it'll take me a bit to put together and I have to admit it's a little inelegant due to Android Auto not exposing a dark mode toggle intent. Anyway, standby and I will post some screenshots and instructions on configuring.
