RLC rear tire carrier / swing out / jerry can / custom fab bumper

Looks to me you could push the whole bumper back a bit, might fix the jerry clearance too. It seems to be 3/8" or so too far into the wheel wells. <edit - maybe just the left side>

So putting the wing brackets on the lower holes thru the frame do work. I have the support side of the bracket on the front side of the car. I used a level and the top of the bumper and the sliders are parallel.
The only problem I have run into, besides my paint ripping off when I took the painters tape off, is the jerry can basket is firm against my hatch. Jason is going to make and send me something to fix.
I need to shorten the cables for the tailgate any suggestions appreciated

That's a clean looking cut there. Respect the patience that took. Also agree that it does seem you're pushed in tighter than the natural arc of the wheel well by a bit on both sides. Would that much help your Jerry can issue?

Honestly I’m afraid to move it because it was a PITA to get it square and I like how it lines up with the bumper in this photo. I’m thinking about having the basket welded into place with the offset I need?

I pushed mine back as far as I could, I think the sides on my were shorter, I still have 1/2" of overlap on the bumper cover, and I'm out 5mm on one side from square. No one ever notices, cause it's always covered in grime.

I wouldn't weld that jerry can on, the platform is really useful for lots of things. Right now I'm using it for 4 gallons of water and a 5lb propane tank. Before I had a trax carrier and a 4 gal fuel rotopax on it. Keep your options open is my advice . . .

Yea the front and rear bumper trimming was a measure twice cut once and pray.

I’ve replaced the 4 gallon red roto with a single 2gal water and think I’ll order another 2 gal to twin with it.
the trax mount was a couple years ago. Same idea.

You guys must have very lenient vehicle rules out there. I wouldn't make it around the block with a propane bottle blocking my taillight like that around here. There's no way it would pass annual inspection, that's for sure.

It would make me nervous, having a bottle of explosive gas hanging out there like that anyway. I assume you only have it mounted when you're out on the trails.

I’d love to get three way lights to replace the 2x2 reverse lights, haven’t found them yet.
I don’t run with the propane except on trips. On balance I prefer it outside the cabin rather than in.
No hassles yet, but it could happen.

Kicking around the idea of doing a dual swingout, one for a triple jerry can holder and other some kind of accessory panel to mount a propane tank and recover boards. Does the RLC bumper eat into the spare tire space at all?

No aftermarket rear bumper will encroach into the factory spare tire location.

I asked James to build up some Rotopax based mounting. The 'pad' is the standard jerry pad, but you made a vertical that allowed for a single rotopax on each side and a radio aerial, which just bolts to the 'pad' like the jerry can mount. I took it from there. There are also some rotopax spaced holes on the tire A arm, but due to clearance with the LX vs TLC, there isn't room to fit a pax between the A arm and the body. In general the pax mods didn't work out as designed (I'm not complaining, it's really not possible unless the truck is there to test fit with, and I was 2000 miles away). I've been adapting it to my needs since. To do it again I'd suggest thinking what you need and how to make general surfaces to mount too, and have that built instead of focusing on 'pax' or another system.

I wanted my tire out from under the car, as that is an inconvenient place to retrieve a tire from when on a soft surface that is probably not level and already having clearance decreased due to a flat.

I know the answer here is highly dependent on the brand of trailer, but I'm just looking for any feedback of "it's not a problem" or "no way, you can't open the hatch when the trailer is hitched up". The latter situation would be a total deal breaker, as you can imagine.

Small Lra and the factory sub tank both allow around 12 gallons of fuel and keep the stock spare location

My trailer is bigger but I've had the same thought. NFW I'm going to unhitch to open the trunk because the swingout contacts the jack. ATM the tailgate clears the jack fine.

This problem may have solved itself. Lead times on teardrops from all the popular companies are at least 12-18 months out. I can't plunk down $25K+ on something, sight unseen, and not have it for that long. Then, I'll have to go get it (CO, UT), no delivery and no local dealers. Argh...

Maybe I'll build one... yeah right.
