I ripped a flare off today on the trail. I guess My mud flapped was grabbed by the tire. it's the only thing that I can thing that happened. It messed up the bumper/cross member cap too. So now the ultimate question, Should I try to fix it or just take them all off. This was my first real trail ride and I ripped it off (on the way out none the less). I'm sure it's bound to happen again. If I take them out where can I Get some of those caps you guys use to fill the holes? Carnage on the trail today, My first real trail ride in the Cruiser. Now Photos.

I'm gonna be posting up a whole trail report in the Central Valley Cruiser Clubhouse if you wanna read about it.

IIRC, you can get the caps at Lowes or HD. I saw an 80 recently that had stainless Allen head bolts in the holes. As for me, I just welded them up:meh:

I'd love to weld them up but I can't afford a paint job right now.

Zip-tie it in and have some handy in the LC for future repairs! My front right one is held in with two zip-ties. It rips off just about every time I take her wheeling, but it is a quick fix.

Link Please?

Also dont beat yourself up over it. I would just find a easy, do it yourself, way to re-attach the flare. Unless you like the look of a cruiser without flares, then just remove them all.

Also my air intake pipe was cracked and repaired, then cracked again... and that was when I bought it, before it ever saw a trail. It was just a matter of time.

As much as I prefer the flared look, I removed mine for this very reason. I wheel my truck, and could foresee losing them the hard way VS just removing them. I want to properly cover the holes, but in the meantime I just have white duct tape covering them (my 80 is white sooo :hillbilly: ).

I prefer the way they look. But seeing as I ripped it off on my first time out I can only assume it'll happen again. Going to Lowes today to find some caps

Were you driving in snow? Put it in reverse? I've seen that happen once or twice...

Exactly.

I did the same thing on my first wheeling trip years ago. Passenger side backed into a rut mudflap and flare pulled off, driver side scraped a rock tore it off. I just took them all off, put the aluminum tape on the holes and herculined it, cost about $80.
Here's some crappy pics

By the way 1shot1kill, your rig is bad ass. I hope to be half as awesome as that some day

Meh....needs more stuff on the roof... :hillbilly:

BTW, I used to have the screen name Carl Hathcock (not on mud), but no one "got it"....

I did the same on saturday. stuck, reverse, crunch. stop, get out, pick up flare and mudflap, curse, then get unstuck.

tomorrow sometime, after I wash this thing, I will re-install the left-rear flare for the 3rd time.
