What does everyone think of these? Anyone planning on ordering one? I like that they are completely modular, with the ability to add side rails and loads of accessories.

if it mounts to the oem rack in any kind of way, just try to avoid it. Do you know how it mounts?

It does look good, I wonder how much added height it has

I like the Rhino stuff but a platform that long would overhang the front leg a lot. Front leg sits just behind the sunroof. I'd have said 1600mm - 1800mm is about as long as would work on a 100.

Good point. It looks like it's available in several shorter lengths.

There are mounting points further forward to accommodate a longer rack, however Rhino will not use them since Toyota in Australia does not recommend using those. Some load bearing issue and roll over issue. Could never get the final answer on that, but that is what they chose to put out in the market. We worked with them on the rack, but we did not get all the features we wanted. The engineering dept overruled us :(

Thanks Christo.
The Baja rack and the Front Runner are still at the top of my list. I like the price and the customization of the Baja and the tried and true performance of the front runner.

I don't plan on putting a tent on top of my truck so max weight capacity isn't too much of a concern. I am more interested in light weight and aerodynamics. The baja seems to be ahead on that front. I really like the available options.

rhino

i have the rhino rack (3 cross bars) on my 100 . i like it because it's a 3min job to remove the cross bars (small feet are left on the roof mounts then, and rhino provide caps to cover them). However the feet are made of molded plastic - not very strong. If you want a strong RR go with an ARB.

That's really all I needed to know. Thanks much.

Stock Roof Rack Questions

LJ, Have you had issues with the stock rack. I just took the one off of my '99 and it seems pretty stout. Much more so than most other stock racks I've had.

I've been thinking about welding up a basket that fits between the rails and connects in the same manner as the stock cross bars. It would keep the rack low so i can still (barely) get into parking garages, but give more flexibility for different kinds of cargo.

So has anyone bought this yet, I'm about to but really can't decide on the flat platform or the cargo tray. I also plan on getting on foxwing awning and right now I'm leaning toward the tray...

I have a foxwing in my garage ready to mount (really looking forward to having that available for use) but I've decided not to get the rhino rack. I got to look at one mounted on an LJ extensively. I didn't like the silver (not a deal breaker but added to the overall dislike) and it looked less HD, more cheaply constructed than the front runner. It looks more "mass produced" IMO. look at all I the options and make the best decision or yourself, it may indeed be the Rhino.

Enjoy the awning. I cant wait to put mine to use. Its been recommended to me to never attempt to deploy in heavy winds :)

I looked at the Rhino stuff, but ultimately decided to go with Front Runner.

Low profile, stout, fits easily in the garage, etc.

Yeah that does look nice, looks like everyone is sold out of the 2.2m right now....I guess its worth the wait...

I just picked up set of these load bars. I like them and are not planning on hauling to much weight with them. So I thought they would be good for me. I am having difficulty deciding hoe=w to get to the mounting points for the front bar. The brackets are not made to fit the mounting points near the sunfoof, but the points just behind. So there is a plastic piece within the groove that is covering these points. Any idea on how to get to them? I already installed the middle and rear bars so removing the plastic piece is not going to be as easy as it sounds. Rhino Rack should have put this in the directions for mounting. Ya I did read the directions.

Pete100 any input would be great considering your running these.

Thanks everyone, Kev

I'm going with one of the gamiviti racks after I do my 90k service
Gamiviti - roof racks

DING DING DING. We have a winner! Seriously though, if you want a sturdy, really nice, well priced rack for the 100, go with the Gamiviti. Run it upside down, the profile can't be beat, nor can the strength.
