hey,

this weekend has been frustrating. i was ready to get the truck inspected today double checking everything. the reverse lights did not work origonally, i just thought it was the bulbs. i have search the 60 sight and theres info on the 62 and the h55 trans but nothing definitive on the 60 4speed. what i have done.

replaced the bulbs twice(just incase bad new part)

checked the socket for voltage when in reverse(vehicle running) - no power

traced the wiring diagram from the FSM all connectors are connected. i unplugged them all cleaned the contact areas and plugged them back in.

wirining diagram says uses frame the transfer case ground circuit so removed that wire cleaned the contact points and put is back on.

i even supplied external power to the reverse light wires and i had lights.

this all points to the back-up light switch which is $50 from the dealer.

just want to make sure im not missing something....

opinions and much thanks, pics of the switch would be great if anyone has any

Dan

Had same problem, traced it back to the connector connecting the trans switch to the wiring harness. It looked connected, but in reality, the wires inside the connector didn't make contact due to the trans side wires were not seated deeply enough. Just cleaned it up, reset the wires into the connector and it worked. I tested this by disconnecting the coupling, used jumper wires from one side of the connector to the other (with the shifter in reverse, of coarse and key position 'on' to get power running) and see of the reverse lights go on. If they do, its the connector.

very cool thanks i will try that tonight. thanks for the pic too. love the pictures for finding stuff!!!!

I think the switch for the 4WD indicator light and the backup are the same try switching them to get you through your inspection. ie pull it out of the t-case and install it in the trans.

outstanding!!!!!!!!!
good to know that..... it will be my temp fix if gsdog2's suggestion does not work. i can see my new inspection sticker now.

solution found

man i love this site. all it takes is an issue and some help from friends and a solution is found. now to the point...

A big thanks to gsdog2 pegged it outright. the pins had been pushed back, dumb me did not look at it very well sunday. frustration can make you blind.

the kicker is the PO apparently had pulled the connector off before but re-installed it upside down so the prongs were entering the connector from the wrong end thus the connection never came close to happening  :bang:

first pick of the connector backwards
second pic of the prongs in the connector backwards
third pics of proper end of the connector with the female reciever

oh props to LCOwner correct about the plugs for the trans shift and the transfer 4x4 being the same so a switch in a pinch would work

Thanks for all the help....another problem solved
