Not even Toyota Pistons and Rings in that receipt. Hasting Rings are the worst for your block. Toyota pistons will set you back about 120 each(before the Tarriffs), Toyota ring set is going to set you back about 425. If they sold you Toyota Rods, main and thrust bearings might of set you back close to 300. The Taiho set only cost about 45-50 buck back then(they marked it up to almost the cost of the Toyota numbered bearings). So many parts on that reciept are not Toyota. Prices at that time do not match what you paid for the part. Very rare the machine shop I used in Colorado needed to replace the pin bushing, the brass is just that good. Rod big ends were typically resized. For Califronia Labor seems cheap. No water pump on that bill . Only reason to replace the Crank position gear is if one busts it when you pull it apart, never repalced even on of these items.
Then when you had it installed. There is all the tune up parts, filters, Injectors (new or cleaned), hoses, Radiator if needed(most do), Belts,Accessory drive pulleys, ETC that goes along with the build. Then shipping, that must of cost a pretty penny each way.
I once had a customer long time ago, get a used engine, it was shipped from a California company to Santa Fe NM. It fell over in Transist and busted the
Starter hole off the block. The Salavage yard did not have another to send. And it snarled up in Insurance claims for a bit. Took an extra 6 week for this guy to get taken care of.
Yes, one can build a 1FZ with all Toyota parts, but it will not be 6500. Yup, still building engines. One at a time with love.
All parts for the 1FZ are still available from Toyota to rebuild this engine. As far as I have needed. And that said, there are a lot of great Japanese parts avaiable that match Toyota's quality to save money. Just need to look.
Get real with you self when you go to rebuild one. Nothing in THE Good Old USA is cheap. Things can be done less costly, but not cheap. Cheap never pays for it self down the road. If you are paying a professional to do the work, expect to pay a liviable wage in the area he lives. Shop rates are getting Crazy. Most shops are closing in on 200/hr these days.
But I do not like doing long blocks for install at other locations. To many variables to give a warranty to.
Hope people that do build long block, and ship out. have good luck, truly I do wish you the best luck. All it takes is one bad install at a location and have the customer want warranty. Then the s*** show starts.
Any how, Just my thoughts.
