We've got the 4.3L in the mini truck, but need to reprogram the computer. Anyone have this capability? Know someone who can/will do it? Recommendations?

OK, it's a '96 4.3L Vortec with spider fuel injection (CPI?). We need to get rid of all the extraneous speed control sensor, A/C, etc and just leave the bare minimum for the motor to run.

Depends if you swap it out with the same ecu. Or group of Ecu's.

I would think that if you told them what you have and what you want they should have no problems.

Well, crud. Called Howell and now I'm more  than ever about this.

Howell's tech department said it didn't need to be reprogrammed. They said the speed sensor, etc would throw passive codes and wouldn't affect engine performance. :bang:

Anyone......anyone......Bueller????

I had my 96" 4.3L computer reprogramed by FAST for arround $200 last year. I had the Post cat O2, all evap junk, VSS and EGR programming eliminated, along with updating the timing curves and fuel maps to get as much as I could out of the stock injection/ingition system. I also switched to the updated injector set (switching from a poppet style central injector to six seperate injectors).

Some do run these with out reprograming although I have read that there are quirks mostly to do with ilde quality, surging and or stalling when braking.

I got a call from Howell in response to an email I had sent before my first msg. This guy was much better at CS.

He tells me that they can't do anything with this particular model ECM, because the motor came from a Chev Astro. He said to run it as is. Passive codes shouldn't result in a check engine light. Worst case scenario, he said to purchase the ECM from a '96 S-10 and the distributor as well. Evidently it's a little different. He said they could reprog that ECM.

What ever happened to the KISS principle? Why do they (GM) insist on little tweaks. Bastids..... :bang:
